Awards: Success stories of award booking on Etihad using AA miles (>= 2015)

This thread is about our members' successful award bookings on Etihad / EY using AAdvantage miles. Please do not post to this thread if you want tips and assistance on booking Etihad awards with AA miles but see this thread: How to use AA miles on Etihad / EY (Consolidated / Master Thread). The wikipost of that thread also contains instructions on how to search for EY availability.

Got a MEL-AUH-DME ticket on Jan,18
- MEL-AUH in F by 77L
- AUH-DME in J by 321
Fare: 90000 miles + $66 taxes.
Unfortunately no Guest-seats available for SYD-AUH leg in F ... will try to catch it later to change the first flight.
It will be my first trip with Etihad and I reserved 1A for the first leg and 2A for the second one ... hope it should be OK.

Unbelievable. I have been waiting for 6/30 to open up USA-AUH. 6/26 opened up 6 days ago, then 6/27 the next day, etc. 6/29 opened, but that's it. 6/30 never opened. It looks like they are imposing blackout dates, similar to what is going on for AUH-USA for 6/10 onwards.

SO frustrating.

on some routes only ONE day of the week opens
and not always. It's crazy. Just a few months ago every day was available...

Just booked 2 F class reward tickets NCE(BA)-LHR(EY)-AUH(EY)-DEL and paid taxes 170 € per person + 30€ fee for phone booking; taxes seems high to me. What do you think?

We will have around 130,000 AA so with buying 110,000 we in theory would be able to get 2 First return AUH to Sydney which is 240,000 in First. Planning on going in December 2016.

Does anyone have any views on likely redemption chances?
1%. Harder then QF F seats IMO if your going for the A380.

France charges the luxury tax, AA charges BA's YQ for NCE-LHR, and LHR has a fairly expensive airport tax. So EUR170 doesn't sound so out of whack.

Booked SFO-AUH-BOM in F for next month. SFO-AUH on the 9W 77W and AUH-BOM on an EY 77W. FWIW there were 2 seats available.

BA has removed YQ from most (all?) shorthaul flights since early this year.

NCE-LHR on BA in J only has the following taxes/fees/charges:

French Air Passenger Solidarity Tax (IZ) €11.27
French Airport Tax (FR) €9.77
French International Passenger Service Charge (QX) €11.35
France Civil Aviation Tax Domestic And International (FR) €4.40

So I booked a seat in F using AA miles. It has been more than 24 hours; I am unable to book chauffeur service and cannot find my flight on the Etihad website. Only the AA website has my reservation. Is this typical?

Did ask the agent for you Etihad record locator? You know, you can't view your reservation on Etihad web site with the AA record locator.

Also you need to make sure that your reservation shows "ticketed" on the AA.com booking page, until which you cannot make chauffeur bookings through EY.

This was the problem.

App on my phone showed "ticketed"; thought it was good-to-go. When I log into AA and click on the ticket, it showed "on reserve". Now everything seems to have synced up.

True, but even if you're connecting you owe Heathrow, and the Solidarity tax goes up the further (and nicer) you're flying.

United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB) $48.40
France Civil Aviation Tax Domestic And International (FR) $4.90
French International Passenger Service Charge (QX) $15.30
French Airport Tax (FR) $14.30
French Air Passenger Solidarity Tax (IZ) $50.40

That works out to $133 (119EUR) for the one-way. For a return ticket the taxes work out to:

United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge (UB) $67.10
France Civil Aviation Tax Domestic And International (FR) $4.90
French International Passenger Service Charge (QX) $12.70
French Airport Tax (FR) $10.90
French Air Passenger Solidarity Tax (IZ) $50.40
Indian Passenger Service Fee (WO) $3.71
India Development Fee (YM) $10.30
Indian User Development Fee (IN) $11.58

That works out to $171.58 (153EUR). That was at current exchange rates which have been fluctuating. Looks to me, though, like you paid the correct amount assuming you're flying round trip
