Many congrats too. Just made 2MM today so looking forward to the Lifetime status..Any idea how long it takes to show"new" status in account and getting the new labels and upgrades?
Been a long time getting there but AA does not even fly from Bonnie Scotland these days!! (shame)
Thanks

Following this thread with interest since I am also close to 2MM. But I have just realized that EVIPs aren't confirmed until the last minute. If you're shlepping to BA in coach and you Don't get the upgrade, that could be a real bummer.

Sorry, how did you realize that inasmuch as it's not true, in general?

Cheers.

Of the last 26 SWU's I used, 1 (ONE) upgrade confirmed the day before flight (transcon LAX-JFK). 8 at 5-21 days ahead, the rest at reservation, or the day after.

This is not at all correct. EVIPs can be confirmed at any time, and IME, most often they clear well before "the last minute."

I'm still wondering the same thing. There's nothing in this thread that indicates such, and I've never seen anything elsewhere in the forum that suggests eVIPs are only a "last minute" upgrade instrument.

Exactly. EVIPs can be confirmed any time the appropriate fare bucket is available. My record is 8 months in advance, but I'm guessing others here have done better.

Thanks, all for the thread.

Just discovered FT forums.

Will be passing 2mm within the next few weeks and have found the eVIP discussion helpful.

Looking forward to greater forum participation!

Thanks for the warning!.

Seriously, though, it's good to hear you have found the forum (or at least this discussion) helpful. We've had a rash of one-post wonders recently, so it's also good to hear that you intend to stick around and contribute.

I just booked confirmed EVIP Business Class R/T travel on AA for the Spouse and I, LAX - FCO via JFK for Easter next Spring. All four segment flights confirmed and I reserved my preferred seats on AA.com. Tied this in with AAdvantage booking for Bus. Class travel on EL AL, R/T FCO - TLV. Returning from TLV to FCO the night before returning to LAX. Used Hilton Honors points to book that night at the Hilton at FCO. Always maximize using the benefits you work hard to pay for and rightfully earn!

In my experience using EVIP's, the longer out you can book, you'll almost always get your choice of destination on the dates you wish to travel.

Some of us use tools to find the flights with bookable VIP-upgraded seats before we book. The Forum Users' Guide sticky thread has links to them; many of us use ExpertFlyer. For us, the VIPs not only don't upgrade at the last minute, they work as we book (yes, I do understand unless you are EXP the call will cost - but an upgraded seat is often well worth the small expense.)

eVIP routing

If one can get to say DEL,
can you use the eVIP for DEL- ORD - stop over for 8 months
and go to ORD-NRT or SIN and then return on the same voucher?
Like a MR positioning trip?
I read on FT about the routes that eVIPs can be used and it seemed one could use a single one to go from any end of the world to another, as long as it was all on AA metal.

Yes, if you have a ticket for DEL-NRT that allows an 8-month stopover at ORD.

No, each SWU (formerly eVIP) is good for a one-way trip, with up to three segments.

You can fly NRT-LAX-ORD-DEL (or vice versa) b/c they are all the same basic direction, you can't go back & forth w/just one eVIP.
