I'm wondering whether to snag this seat on an upcoming RDU - LHR flight. I've never paid attention to this seat when boarding, but wonder what are the pluses and minuses -- seat expert is not very helpful. Where is the AVOD when there is no seat in front of you?

the AVOD is portable and can be fitted into a slot in front of you. Personally, I don't like row 2 because of outdated regs that won't let you put anything in the big space in front of you, although I'm not sure that rule applies to 2A/2J.

It seems that the rule applies to the boot area under all the seats, not just Row 2, so that's not a distinguishing factor. With that said, we've been in row 2 on the 763 (as recently as last Friday) and have had no problem sticking stuff under there for takeoff and landing.

My gf and I flew CDG-JFK in 2D/G last month and were permitted to put bags in front of us.

Yup. Same seats we had on Friday for LAX-BOS. It seems that it's not so much "permitted," but that the restriction (thanks to JDiver for pointing this out elsewhere) simply not being enforced on a regular basis.

Well, in our case, the FA -- the purser, IIRC -- told us to put our bags there, so I'm not ready to conclude that it's not permitted. skylady, have you worked a 763 recently?

I usually try for row 2 as it allows me to be the first off the a/c and then the first to hit customs (hoping that there is not a load of paxs from a 747 ahead of me). On a recent ORD/FRA I had 2A for both flights and got the row to myself. Some flyers do not like bulkheads and in general I have found that I have a better chance of the seat being empty next to me in F/J if I am in a bulkhead.

I suppose I should consider 2A in future, as I have a tendency to snore loudly when I'm not sleeping on my left side. The empty seat would spare a neighbor.
