I have one reservation booked for May, and another held for July, each of which have one segment on a 738. When I go to select a seat, it tells me the map is unavailable on those two segments. Any reason for this other than a computer glitch at AA? I assume if I call they'll be able to get me a seat of choice?
The reason the seat map is unavailable is probably related to the fact that the new 738s being delivered have 160 seats instead of 148 seats (two extra rows of coach).
I had the same thing happen for a 757 flight earleir this week. It fixed itself a few hours. It could be a similar reason, or it could be the 738 thing - or something else completely

I'm booked on a 738 ORD-LAX on Tuesday (4/14).
Right now I can't get access to the seat map on AA.com or on ExpertFlyer.
If we're booked in 14 (seatguru says it's an exit row), are we actually booked in an exit row? Is it possible that I can't see the seat map because they're reconfiguring Y? If so, is it possible that 14 won't be an exit row when we get on the plane?

if you are booked in an exit row, you should get the pop up asking if you are qualified Y/N

I had a similar problem with not seeing the seat map on a 737 flight.
I called several times to get an exit row seat assigned. The first call put me in Row 15, which wasn't exit row according to seatguru. The second call confirmed that Row 15 was exit row.

Have you flown yet? Seatguru says that 13 and 14 are the exits. Are they now 14 and 15? This is frustrating.

Here is what the current seat maps looks like, so the 'good' exit row should be row 15 (= row 14 on SeatGuru):
