I just got an email from Gogo offering a "pay it forward" style promo. Up to 4 total free Gogo sessions for me each time someone uses a unique free code for themselves, plus some kind of contest entry.
To be clear the code itself appears to be the "free for first time users" style like the AATRYGOGO code, but looks like it doesn't have any kind of other redemption cap.
1. FREE SESSION OFFER: EARN UP TO 4 FREE SESSIONS. Each time someone uses your “first timer” code to obtain a free Gogo session, you earn a free session for yourself, up to a maximum of four (4) free sessions. Your code can be used more than four times, but you can only earn up to 4 sessions for yourself. Limit one free session per person and per email address for people who use a free “first timer” code. Free “first timer” codes are valid until January 7, 2010, and must be used by that date on available flights in the U.S. offering Gogo service, or they expire. Free sessions that you earn must be used by February 28, 2010. You will be sent email notification from Sponsor each time your code is used by someone else, up to the first four such uses. All sessions are subject to standard Gogo terms and conditions
I am flying AA from ORD to CDG this Saturday, can I use this on international flights?
How do I pre-register?
Thank you, Jim
Intercontinental aircraft are not equipped with this technology yet. Pre-registration can be done at gogoinflight.com, although it's easier to do so onboard when activating the promo code IME.
If you're out of free promo codes, but would like a discount, try using an obscure browser.
I have a browser called SeaMonkey (Mozilla-based suite with lots of technlogy shared with Firefox, but does not report to websites as being Firefox), and on my last three midcon flight legs, when I've tried to use GoGo on it, it thought I was a modile user (rather than a laptop user) and only asked for $7.95. (Only on one of those three flight legs did I not have a free promo code to use.) When I tried the same with IE, it asked for $12.95!
I did sign up via SeaMonkey, and despite it thinking I was "mobile" I didn't find anything I couldn't do internet-wise.
I don't necessarily recommend using SeaMonkey in general over Firefox (the not reporting as Firefox causes some websites to act a bit crippled because they only know how to talk to famous browsers and assume your browser is not compatible with any of them), but if you use GoGo often enough that you can't always use a free code, you might want to install it and see if it gives you $5ish savings each time too. FWIW, I was using SeaMonkey 1.x at the time, and they've just come out with 2.0, and I've not tried it with 2.0 yet. But I did find that other issues caused by websites not recognizing the browser haven't gone away in 2.0.
And you only need to use a "strange" brwoser during the purchase phase. Once you've gotten the confirmation that you're connected, you can use another browser.
There may be other "obscure" browsers you can use for sign-up that do the same thing. I only happened on SeaMonkey doing this by chance. (Initially, I installed SeaMonkey because an earlier version of Firefox had problems importing my Netscape passwords, which imported into SeaMonkey fine.)
... Btw, another thing I noticed is that some flights charge tax on the GoGo price but others don't! Does it have to do with where the flight originated, or what state you're flying over at the time you're purchasing?
Although it was supposed to expire on 11/7 (per below), the 2010LEXUSLS passcode was still working on 11/8. Will try again tomorrow.
"Beginning Nov. 1 and running through Nov. 7, American customers traveling on Wi-Fi equipped aircraft can enjoy free Wi-Fi service, compliments of Lexus allowing travelers to stay connected while thousands of feet in the sky."
