With the gaggle of free codes available, I suspect that GoGo might not be the overnight success that AA and GoGo were hoping for.
It would be more attractive if they would sell monthly access, or even daily access. Nothing like having 2 or 3 flights in a day and having to pay for access on each one. Perhaps they will do that when (if) they have the entire fleet GoGo equipped.

Free week of WiFi courtesy of Lexus
First is a distinction worth celebrating. American Airlines was the first to launch Wi-Fi in the sky, an innovation that has been often imitated. And just as American moves commercial aviation forward, the Lexus LS moves the automotive industry forward with twelve world's first innovations that serve as inspirations for others.
To celebrate our common values, Lexus is providing free in-flight Wi-Fi for all passengers on equipped flights.
So, enjoy checking your e-mail, surfing the web and sending instant messages. And while you're online, visit lexus.com for all their latest news, like the launch of the 2010 LS. But never forget that without those who dare to innovate, none of this could be possible.
This special offer is valid November 1, 2009 through November 7, 2009.
Promotion Code: 2010LexusLS
For more details about Wi-Fi on board, visit www.aa.com/gogo.
That's definitely an interesting marketing strategy. I wonder how much something like this costs Lexus. Wouldn't it be great to have a different sponsor every week!
It looks like you still have to enter a code. I wonder how well the code is advertised.

BTW, Google is sponsoring free internet on VX for the entire holiday period (and VX is 100% Wi-Fi equipped). Thread: Free Wifi from Nov 10, 2009 to January 15, 2010. It looks like it's a trend; there was a study made by AS (and widely reported on FT) that the uptake of Wi-Fi crashes as soon as you start charging $1 for it, so advertising-supported Wi-Fi may be the best way for airlines to make money.

Not only that, but installing WiFi on all aircraft might actually be a cost-saver if you factor in the repairs, maintenance, and upgrade costs for all IFEs.

I haven't gone on a flight yet, but tried to create a GoGo account. It asked for a credit card number or to skip it. Will I eventually need to enter a credit card if I just want to try it out for free using the AATRYGOGO code?

Will never need to enter a credit card number if using that code. Once entered when you're onboard the total is updated to $0 and you're good to go.

In the case of the Lexus code it's right on the sign-in page, so hard to miss. Nothing about it, though, in any of the predeparture and postdeparture announcements. I'm the only one in business class with a netbook on, and after about an hour I'm going to join everyone else and go to sleep.
Tom about 45 mins out of SFO on the way to JFK
