The multi-page NGBC seat thread notes that ALL 777s and 767-300ERs have been converted to the new lay-angled seats.

Having flown those flights twice in the last month, I can confirm that the seats are newly configured business class seats.

In the not too distant future, I'm hoping to experience actually sitting in them, thanks to my newly acquired EXP status.

That is great news. I am just 'starting' out on AA, merged over from LH Miles & Less program. Expecting to hit Plat from Zero in August

Don't forget about the Gold/Plat Challenges. That roundtrip alone is good enough to get you Gold (or Plat depending on the booking code).

Check the FAQ at the top, FewMiles has a great summary of how to jumpstart your AAdvantage status.

There are too many pages to read !! Don't know anything about challenges. I have, this afternoon, LAX-LHR, tomorrow LHR-DUS, then DUS-LHR-VRN-LHR-LAX in about a week. In Feb LAX-LHR-BOM-LHR-DUS-LHR-LAX and they are all "J" class

I would HIGHLY recommend you sign up for a Platinum challenge now, with a Jan 1 start date.
YOu need 10000 points in 3 months
Based on the information, you will have this during the trip described.
You will get PLT status until the end of February 2010
Platinum gives you 100 percent bonus on miles earned, free upgrades (2000 miles per 10K flown), priority seating (if you fly in economy), international lounge access on, even if flying economy, etc..
