soft landing - EXP to PLT downgrade?

any reason why the "soft landing" policy (if you don't requalify for EXP, they drop you just to PLT next yr, etc) is only quoted on the AA ireland site?

AA ireland:
http://www.americanairlines.ie/conte...YOT5EAJJNBSKHI

even the direct AA link is just a mirror of the ireland page:
http://www.aa.com/content/ie/agency/...erAccrue.jhtml

has anyone ever had trouble with this before? the previous threads on the topic weren't conclusive.

asking as i fly loads of CX these days having moved to HK and am about to lose EXP...i book miles to AA nonetheless but many of my CX fares don't qualify. probably pissed away 40k flown miles before i realized the issue

(anybody actually prefer CX over AA?)

debating whether i need a mileage run before yr end to requalify for PLT (EXP is looking pretty impossible)

on that note, do people trade systemwide upgrades and such here or is that not allowed to be discussed?

thanks

AFAIK, the soft landing has not changed. Not sure why it's not listed on the website, but you should be safe to retain PLT status as long as you've flown at least one segment on AA metal.

It has been reported elsewhere that it is one of those policies under review, but there is no sign of any immediate change.

There is trading in Coupon Connection, but it is only accessible to people with at least 90 posts.

No one knows why the soft landing is spelled out on the Irish site but not on AA.com. The most likely reason is that AA is a big company, and it is difficult to coordinate everything. The fact that it is an undocumented benefit makes it susceptible to change without notice. I have not seen any instances in the past of members not getting the soft landing.

Sale or swap of eVIPs is expressly prohibited by AA. If they catch you doing it, there will be penalties involved, as much as freezing your AAdvantage account and revoking your status. That said, people have done sales/swaps on e-bay and Craigslist, with frequent problems as cited above. People have done swaps on Coupon Connection, with some of the same problems. People have done sales/swaps with close friends and relatives, I can't remember any reported problems. My sense here is that AA is really after brokers who buy and sell these, but that it is possible for ordinary members to get caught up in the investigation and get penalized as well.

That Irish page is out of date. Note that EXP qualification requirements do not mention 100 segments (a fairly recent addition).
