I flew direct from JFK - NRT earlier this year, and despite checking in 3 hours before departure, my bags didn't make it on the flight. AA at NRT were sympathetic but had not toiletry kits and offered no compensation, so I spent my first night in Tokyo trying to buy toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, underwear etc. Fortunately the 7-Eleven near my hotel was well stocked. The bag was delivered to my hotel about 30 hours later.
AA gave me 10,000 miles when I complained about this, and the lack of any AVOD on the return flight.

At least it happened in Tokyo. The 7-11s are great and a delivery service is not going to "get lost" trying to deliver your bag on time.
So I was flying ORD to MBJ last Thursday with a stop in Miami. Well the MIA MBJ flight was delayed form 6-7 then 7-8 then 8-8.30 p.m. then it was canceled because the crew time had run out. They then put everyone up and we were told that the flight would then leave at 6 the next morning..Well that did not leave till 7.30
So here I was tonight ready to write a letter to Customer service and explain my long day of flying and there was the message stating that my aa account would be credited 15,000 miles. Wow. Yeah the inconvenience sucked but the bonus was a nice touch.
That is the most I have ever heard of.. Has anyone received more from a non solicitation

Yep. Got 25K miles unrequested from AA for a paid J ticket from LAX-NRT on a flight delayed 12 hours do to a mechanical and complimentary upgrades to F on both the the LAX-NRT and NRT-DFW segments. The only downside was the crapy Embasey Suites they put me up in at LAX. Next time I'll make my own hotel arragments and expense it.
All in all, good recovery from AA...but as they should on a 7K ticket.

Wow, they gave you 15,000 to Jamaica? I just received 4,000 for a 5 hour delay Dublin to Chicago. That cost my son his first and likely only meeting with his great-grandmother. Sounds like I have a phone call to make . . .

I got an unexpected 10,000 customer service miles from a February flight ORD-BRU. AA apologized for the entertainment system not working. Huh?? Didn't even know there was a problem, as I slept most of the way. I once got a mere 7,000 for a MIA-LAX delay of 4 hours, so a hefty 10K for missing a crappy movie was shocking.
I got 15,000 customer service miles for emergency landing in Den for supposed electrical fire in ac chiller.....4 hour delay, then radar gave out before takeoff....then cancelled flight and resumed next am.....AA paid for hotel....screwed up first couple days of vacation.....any thoughts on compensation?
I'm not sure if some of the recent posts to this thread might have been merges, but could I suggest that everyone take note of the format specified in the OP? It makes it much easier to scan through the thread to get compensation ranges for various issues. Perhaps some of the recent posts could be edited accordingly.

Date March 2008 AAdvantage Status None Fare class discount Y What happened Flight repeatedly delayed due to "weather" (freak snow storm?) at DFW. Flying LAX-DFW. Arrived approximately 3 hours late. Compensation 3000 miles Comments Did not complain nor comment on delays. Our flight was continously delayed while others were getting out to DFW. Arrived in DFW to sunny skies, no snow. Miles were an appreciated gesture. Was delayed at BOS for 3.5 hours on tarmac July 27 -- no compensation.
I have a question....I recently wrote to AA regarding a trip to PHX I took about a month ago. I wrote requesting compensation for the interruption. Below are the details of what happened and what AA responded with. Would like to know what they offerred was fair or I should have gotten more:
Outbound: JFK-DFW-PHX.....The flight to JFK was cancelled due to servicing and maitenance issue...Was rerouted thru Chicago and had a over 3hr layover there berfore flight to PHX...so I was suppose to arrive in PHX at 11AM and did not until after 3pm that day.
InBound(going home): PHX-ORD-JFK...the flight to PHX was fine....the next flight from ORD was suppose to leave at 5pm then delayed to 5:25pm. We boarded for 5:25pm depature and pushed back at that time....We taxied since it was busy at that time and when it was our turn to takeoff, the control tower told the captain to pull over and park the plane because the airspace to NYC was too crowded with a thunderstorm in Ohio Valley...We sat for 2 hours on the plane and then the captain said the tower will not release us for another 1 hr. That hour came and when it was up the captian said we were released but now the flight crew's time expired and was going back to the gate and AA decided to cancel the flight. I called the 800 # and aswe taxied I got the last two seats on the first flight out the next morning to JFK. Once back at gate I got reticketed and no other flights to NYC that night were open. I had to ask for o/n accomodations and was only offerred a discount rate at the Hyatt ($75) because it was weather related.
I wrote to AA and explained in full detail what happened. For compensation, I asked for : 1.) Partial refund for flight to DFW going to PHX and 2.) a complimentary upgrade for next class of servoce for my nextr ticket booked with them and an upgrade in my Advantage membership for the trouble of my cancelled flight home and additonal cost of hotel and meals overnight.
Their two inital responses was that I was not entitled to anything as it was weather-related....It wasn't until I called Corporate HQ and left two messages with the head at customer relations dd someone call me back.
They offered me either 5K miles to my Advantage acct or $125 E-Certificate.
What do you all think...Was this fair? Was i askig for too much or shoudl I have gotten more than what they offerred.. I tooke the $125 gift certificate.

IMHO you did very well. A 4-hr delay and an uncontrollable/weather related disruption that caused the crew to go illegal... if $125 or 5K every time I'd be ecstatic. Not sure if you have status (or if it would matter) but I would not expect that compensation time after time.
