Ah, gotta love the board. Nah, anyways, a ten hour delay has gotta be worth some courtesy miles, I would think. I can't really speak to AA, but on NWA, you might clear 5K miles as compensation...

It seems that recently AA has been giving people a choice - miles or vouchers. A 10 hour delay would result in more than 5K.

There's no rhyme or reason to what AA is going to give as compensation. My guess is that you get roughly 10K miles. If you'd rather have a $ off voucher, say so in your email.
AA has no idea what they will do themselves. Was on a BOG-MIA flight 2 weeks ago, 3 hour delay, 2 days later AA posted 4k bonus miles (un-asked for) and sent an apology (apart from the hotel, meals etc also provided)
About 6 weeks ago, another BOG-MIA, cancelled due to mechanical, I was re-routed on AV and got nothing. Complained to customer service and got 10k bonus miles, EQM posting though not flown, and a cheque for my expenses.
AAdvantage Status: PLT Fare class: G, SFO-JFK-LHR What happened: Last Friday AA called me three hours before the SFO-JFK flight to let me know that the flight was delayed four hours (for mechanical), ensuring that I would miss my two-hour connection to LHR. I was re-routed through DFW with a 55-minute connection. I lost an exit row seat on the first flight and a special meal on the second, but at that point was happy just to get to LHR at the same time, as I had a tight turnaround in LHR. Compensation: 4,000 miles, unsolicited. And I received them, coincidentally, on my birthday! Comments: CS e-mail text below.
Dear Mr. cAAribmorpho:
We are sorry! There is no question that the lengthy delay of your flight created inconvenience for you on May 16. Please know that we have great respect for our customers' time and it is just as important to us to depart on time as it is to you. Safety will always take precedence over schedules but we will continue to work hard to keep flight delays to a minimum.
We'd like to offer some encouragement to fly with us again and 4,000 bonus miles have been deposited into your AAdvantageŽ. You will see the mileage in your account soon at http://www.aa.com/aadvantage.
Again, we apologize for disrupting your trip. We hope you will give us another chance to serve you better. We'll see you aboard.
Sincerely,
XXX

I got the exact same letter and the same bonus (4k miles) on the 17th of May after a 3 hour delay on BOG-MIA. (Messed up a whole lot of conections to LAX/JFK and then LHR. Involuntary re-route and had to miss JFK and do LAX-LHR direct and only got in two hours later than I would have without the delay. They had been very accomodating about the re-routes and hotel vouchers etc so wasnt going to ask for compensation. Nice surprise.
The compensation was $ 200 and 15,000 miles.
Thanks for all your comments.
This morning I got an email from AA crediting my account with another 10,000 miles. I guess someone else complained about the IFE not working properly. This was a total surprise to me.
All in all. $ 200 + 25,000 miles.
