AAdvantage Status EXP/PLT
Fare class Discount Y
What happened MIA-EZE in J using VIP's. 777 J seat footrest would not stay in full down position. No other J/F seats available. Return flight late, PLT wife downgraded to Y on MIA-ORD. Luggage lost for 11 hours. Requested 2 VIP's recredited +whatever wife was entitled to.
Compensation 20K miles in my account.
Comments Had name of Purser and employee number. Not bad compensation, IMO. No VIP's, as "We do not re-credit VIP's once used."
You requested 2 EVIPS because a footrest wouldn't stay down?
DFW weather meltdown - EXP claims, but fails, to book me
Dec 20, 2006: Weather meltdown at DFW
My fare / booked itinerary: KUPP, AA 1070 SAT - DFW, AA 1215 DFW - SMF
What happened: Ground delays at SAT, delays for a gate for DFW arrival, hold short of gate 15' for marshalling crew, hold at gate 5' for door to open; missed next flight by 5 minutes, called EXP, who put me on 4:40 PM flight one in F one in Y waitlisted for F.
Checked into AC for BPs, and was informed EXP had not booked anything for me, next flight with seat availability tomorrow, 9 PM! Accepted involuntary reroute to SFO in coach. Overnighting in SFO hotel tonight ($127,) proceeding home in rental car tomorrow ($115 or so.)
Considering: stating expenses for RON and extra transport, though I suspect they will be more amenable to miles. 10-15,000 miles per person? I haven't ever requested compo before, but this time, the person (whose first name at least I have) at EXP seems to have really dropped the ball, unless fellow FTers can suggest any other reason this may have happened?
Side issues just FYI: GA did the old story of "you are on a coach fare with a courtesy upgrade," and AC agent actually asked me "And where have YOU been all this time?" after telling her what happened - I had to say "I don't think you were listening to me!" which got a reversal and offers of free drink chits, etc. Whew! Lots of tension out there today!
Will post result as it is revealed to me.

JDiver.. what did you do in my fine town (SAT) ?
I am in the same boat as you were a few days ago...
THU Dec 21st
SAT-DFW-MTY.
EXP
H Class fare
DFW-MTY delayed by 35 mins due to crew delay. After boarding, a hydraulic failure that took 2 hours to identify and fix (all while we are on board with numerous unhappy little kids going home for the holidays). Flight gets into MTY well past mid-night.
FRI Dec 22nd
MTY-DFW-SAT
EXP
H Class Fare
MTY-DFW delayed by 45 mins due to late inbound plane
No problem as I had a 3 hour layover anyway as earlier DFW-SAT flights were sold out.
DFW-SAT flight delayed from 10:30PM to 1:23AM due to inbound plane delayed from DCA.
I am still sitting in the AC not knowing if this is actually the correct departure time.
Agents are overworked, unhappy and really do not seem to care about any of the passengers. No compensation or cots offered for any of the families.
Luckily the DFW-SCL is way delayed so the AC in the D-terminal is still open.
Also, my upgrade has never been processed despite me requesting it on-line when I booked it, using the phone automated service, asking for it upon check-in in MTY.
I am slightly disturbed by these delays and I think 15K miles would be fair. What do you all think?
Compensation AA just emailed back and offered 15,000 miles. I never even asked for anything in my email. Go AA.

AA gave me 15,000 miles for my delay. Have they responded to yours yet?

I thought I'd wait and write after the mess is over, so I am going to e-mail this week. No request, no response. Yet, I hope. (It's really not the misconnect etc. I am bothered with, it's that the EXP agent I called said she had us on a flight, but when the AC agent pulled up the PNR, NOTHING had been changed, and now the next available seats were 28 hours away! )
SAT was tropical while we were there (except for th least day or two.) Nice place, I haven't visited in 40+ years - Dillard's was Joske's of Texas, the river was pretty much a cloaca in much of the city - it's changed! We had a mini-family reunion, some of us frmo SMF, most from MEX on the MX / AA codesahres (mostly, they ran 2 hrs+ late.)
Glad you got your 15k compo without even writing! Congratulations!

To be clear, I wrote. I just did not ask or demand anything. I simply communicated what happened to me and that I was disappointed in how AA handled the situation.
But, kudos to AA. I am very pleased with them and appreciate the magnitude of the offer...

Miles for delay- 1/1 JFK-MIA
I know people often ask about getting miles for delays. So the more info on the board the better.
I was on 1797 JFK-MIA on 1/1. Flight was supposed to leave at noon. We boarded on time, plane all ready to go around noon. Captain gets on and says a bird hit the wing on the inbound landing and they need to replace some shell on the wing. Unfortunately, it’s a long process that involves taking off most of the wing. Captain isn’t sure if we’ll wait or get a new plan. Estimated fix time is 3pm. Around 12:45 captain says they can’t get us a new plane, so we’ll have to wait it out. Unfortunately, due to a security breach at JFK we aren’t allowed off the plane. We sit on the plane till about 3:30 before we take off.
Just received an email from AA customer relations apologizing for the delay and depositing 6,000 miles in my account.
I’m very pleased and was not expecting anything. I didn’t complain, so my guess is everyone on the plane received this.
I agree that more information is better. I don't think that a new thread for each delay/issue and its compensation is helpful, though. That's why we have this:
