AA are giving "bonus" miles for flying Premium Economy (W or T). Interesting how you will get "bonus" miles but zero base mileage? Wonder if they will be changing their charts soon??
It would appear to make no sense ...
"Offer valid for one-way or round-trip flights operated by Qantas and marketed by Qantas ........ AAdvantage miles must be earned for flights to qualify for the bonus. "
You have to buy the QF ticket and not the AA codeshare and you get the bonus only if you earn AA miles for the flight - which you won't for a QF ticket in T or W, so you can't earn the bonus for premium economy.

I suspect this is one of those instances where everyone is sloughing off the issue to someone else, and nobody feels it's very urgent (does the phrase "it's not my job?" come to mind?) What I thought was a well-crafted inquiry resulted in this response, obviously just popped from the can:
"Dear JDiver,
Thank you for contacting us. In terms of earning AAdvantage mileage, the rules that govern mileage accrual on the Marketing Carrier dictate whether or not miles are earned. As long as the codeshare flight is eligible, according to the Marketing Carrier's rules, then you will earn miles, even if the Operating Carrier is not an AAdvantage® participant.
While all the current codeshare information on our website seems to be up to date and accurate, we've forwarded a copy of your email to the webmaster for an internal review.
If you have any further questions with regard to mileage accrual on codeshare flights, please contact our AAdvantage® Customer Service Department directly."
Inaccurate, unthinking canned gobbledygook! All I can say is to continue with contacting Customer Services and Web Services, etc. until we actually get to someone who gives a crAAp and carries out some responsive action.

After bouncing to a third person - asking about the bonus and what the "base miles" were for flying Qantas Premium Economy (W or T) as well as how to book premium economy on AA.com, here is the response I received:
There are numerous airfares and flight schedules available on AA.com.
The results that you receive are determined by the flight search
criteria submitted.
We do offer codeshare flights, operated by Qantas on AA.com.
It appears that travel 'W' or 'T' inventory will not qualify for mileage
credit. However, our colleagues in the American Airlines AAdvantage
Services Department will best handle your questions and concerns
regarding this issue.

Write a snail-mail letter addressed to Arpey, Horton, and Garton with all the facts and printouts (the QF380 promo printout and the Qantas miles earning page). It usually speeds up the process on getting the ball rolling. It is absurd for one to be paying for a class of service, yet not earn miles on it just because AA doesn't have a clue that there is a new class of service between Business and Economy on their partners.
I'll send in my own snail-mail letter out today.

Looks like I finally got ahold of someone with some sense, I see where our issue is - AA says these codes are "Free" tickets. I told them that I booked in this class (per my travel agent - W & T are Premium Economy). Now I'm going back to this person regarding the current bonus offer and BA's W&T inventory receiving 1.1 base miles and 1.5 status credits.
Dear Mr. domaintraveler,
We appreciate your recent email to AAdvantage® Customer Service.
Do you happen to have the actual ticket number? According to the
information I have, booking code "T" for Qantas is a free economy
mileage ticket. The information you have given me indicates this is a
purchased ticket.
Thank you for contacting us regarding this matter. If you have any other
AAdvantage issues or questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Good News from AA regarding WT+ on Qantas
Please see below the response that I just got from AAdvantage. Hopefully they will get this in fairly quickly as I will be flying WT+ on Qantas soon!! (fingers crossed).
Dear Mr. domaintraveler,
Thank you for your reply. We are grateful for your business as an
AAdvantage® member.
Qantas is changing their booking codes for eligible flights. We
received the information yesterday that W and T will now be eligible,
but details are still pending. The promotion you provided the link for
begins on September 30, 2008, so yes, these codes will be eligible at
that time. I did go ahead and register you for the promotion.
I wish I could give you more information about the W and T fares in
terms of what elite qualifying points would be earned, but until we have
been given additional information (which my resource says should be this
afternoon or Monday), I am not able to do so.
Thank you for contacting us regarding this matter. If you have any other
AAdvantage issues or questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.
Thanks for letting us know QF is apparently changing fare codes, and AA is aware of the issue and will enable earning AAdvantage EQM/EQP. We can assume it will be much like the earning scheme for WT+, but we will keep our eyes on this thread as things become more definitive.
Hmm, all of us riding QF in the future had better keep an eye here, because other fare code changes may occur!

It's taken long enough, Qantas changed these fare codes late last year. I guess it did not become an issue with AAdvantage until Y+ became available transpacific.
T was a coach award booking bucket for Qantas's Elite Frequent Flyers. (W was a Economy "Flexi Saver" domestic fare bucket).
By Booking Code
Code Old Description New Description
P Discount First class First class Award Redemption
T Gold/Platinum whY Award redemption Discount Premium Economy
W Discount Ecomony Full fare Premium Economy
X' (subclass) Gold/Platinum whY Award redemption
Z First class Award Redemption Premium Economy award redemption
By Fare Bucket Description
Description Old New
Discount First class P ? (A?)
Discount Premium Economy n/a T
Economy Flexi Saver domestic fare W B (merged into)
Full fare Premium Economy n/a W
First class Award Redemption Z P
Gold/Platinum whY Award redemption T X' (Subclass)
Premium Economy award redemption n/a Z
Is AA able to book an award on QF for premium ecomony seats? I am having a tough time finding business class seats in both directions and would be willing to take a voluntary downgrade in one direction to premium economy if that's an option.

Today, we presumably can't even earn miles on a paid Premium Economy flight on QF - until QF assigns fare codes usable by AA and AA adapts its system to allow it, anyway. As to awards, that might take considerably longer, or never happen. In the meantime, TN in coach is more comfortable than QF coach, IMO, and an award seat in Business on TN (via PPT) or even FJ (via NAN) are within the realm of possibility.
