The standard line seems to be "Your Name and Associates". So if I was James Randolph, I would put down "James Randolph and Associates." Avoid using INC, LLC, or any other term that indicates you are incorporated.

If your worried about it, you can always drive to your local city or county hall and register a "company name". I think it was about $10 when I did it a few years ago. Then you will have a real "company" name to use. Of course, be ready for a wave of junk snail mail to be sent your way.

How about if I am the sole propietor of my own business? Do I just write my name as my business name? I do have a business license issued by my city but it doesn't really say anything except for my name, my address (which obviously is my own home address), and my business type. Is this sufficient? And if I do so, will it be odd to see my name written twice on the same credit card?
Just recently applied for the Citi business card and found an interesting bonus. I originally went to apply and then decided to finish later so went to close out the window. I received a pop up to continue my application and also receive double miles for the first 5000 in purchase. The offer was good for the first year. Thought I would pass it along as I feel its a pretty hot deal with the sign up bonus and the always lovely and never used companion cert. Hope this has not already been discussed as I did a search and didnt see it. Good luck and disable pop up blockers!

Sorry, earn 2 advantage miles for the FIRST 5000 in purchases. Its easy to see the pop up. Go and apply, enter in anything in the first box(email addy) then close the window. Should pop up right away.
Example:
spend 5000 first month and you should receive 10000 miles instead of your standard 5000.

The pop up blocker is key as I am glad I did this initially at work where I do not have one installed. If I had done this at home I would have never seen it and was going to apply anyways. Thanks for helping in the clarification bayou.

Slightly OT question: When applying as a "sole proprietorship," you have to include both your individual income and the business's income. Are those one and the same for a sole proprietorship? Or do you have to try to separate it out somehow?
Wouldn't it look suspicious if somebody put down the same number for both?
Also, I'm assuming by "individual" income they mean "household," right?

As I've seen it discussed earlier, I don't think it matters a lot (I believe someone has said that as long as you have an SSN and are breathing, you are good). I just applied and was immediately approved. I only entered my individual income (not household) and my business income was only 2% of my individual income.

Great!
It looks like I'll be putting my Starwood AMEX on the shelf until I hit $5000 in non-AA purchases... (I'll have to keep track on the statements, given that I have so many AA-related charges!)
After I hit $5k, I'll go back to the Starwood (1.25mi/$1) for anything other than AA-related purchases.

You know what? On further reflection, doesn't it seem like they basically are just putting a new spin on the previous 25k bonus offer?
It used to be 20k bonus miles (after $250 spent), with an additional 5k bonus miles applied after one year of membership.
Now, it says 20k bonus miles (after $250 spent), with an additional 5k bonus miles applied for the first non-AA $5k spent within the first year of membership.
It works out to the same....the only difference is that the 5k bonus does not come automatically in one chunk, but rather in bits and pieces during the first $5000 charged in non-AA purchases.

one major difference: the first situ requires payment of annual fee, the second does not

The difference is you are not locked into paying the annual fee to get that last 5K.
Anyway--is there a specific URL you guys are using? I'm just going to citibusiness.com and applying there. I put in an email address and close the window--and it just closes. The offer I see there is the one with 20K + 5K on your one-year anniversary + companion cert.
