In general, this is one of those "maybe, maybe not" cases. There are disclaimers on the OW partner pages on AA about how codeshares on yet other metal may, or may not, earn miles. I'm guessing that this is very situation-specific.

Cheers.
IS there a way of knowing in advance? My particular situation was on a Malev codeshare to CLJ operated by Carpatiar.
Though it has happened in rare circumstances, it is highly doubtful you will earn AA miles on this one. Carpatair is a Romanian (Malév is Hungarian) carrier with a variety of developing partnerships, but it is not a directly owned subsidiary or otherwise a qualified airline to earn AA miles on in any way I can see.

If a OW partner (MA) codeshares w/ a non OW airline and puts their flight number on the ticket, can we get AA credit for it?
No, unless it your ticket is on the Airline you are requesting the miles or ot is on OW metal. For example you can not get AA miles on a CX flight number on China Air metal (not OW) . You can get ASIA miles in this example. You can get AA miles on the EVA Air code share with an AA ticket but can not get CX/ASIA miles.
Just write AAdvantage and ask.
"I'm flying on MA XXXX, which is a flight operated by XX. Will that earn AAdvantage miles." If they say yes, keep the email.
What about if I'm an AAdvantage member flying on an AA codeshare on AA metal but under the partner flight number? Would I earn AA miles per the AAdvantage rules (because flying on AA metal) or per the rules set by AA for earning on that partner (because booked under the partner code)?

If you are on non OW metal U can only get mileage on the airline the OW flight number is on.
For example; if u are on KE metal with a JL flight# ticketed you can get JL miles. U can always get AA miles (by fare rules) on a ticketed AA flight number no matter what metal.
We have a trip booked in Sept, LAX-LHR-DUB-ORD-LAX with a three day stop in London. Originally flying BA Cityflyer from London City Airport to Dublin, but now that flight has been cancelled and BA is not going to be flying to DUB at all. They rebooked us on Air Lingus with BA codeshare. Seems to me that we should get the miles, given the rebooking, but I'm not sure I'm going to fight over 25% of 500 miles.

I know that if you're under an AA code you get the miles (but not necessarily full miles depending on the operating carrier), but my question is what if you're on AA metal and under the partner code (because it was cheaper to book under partner code). What happens then? How does this differ OW partner vs. non-OW? (personally more interested in the former)

You will have to look up each OW airline on AA.COM (see bleow) for mileage credit based in fare bucket. Chances are (not always) u will get less mileage booking the lower fare on OW metal non AA flight#. http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?...lines/main.jsp
