The best use of the old miles is on 3 class domestic flights- like LAX-JFK. The 15A award allows upgrade from coach to Premium Class. But you must find a long time employee who knows the rules. Ask them to check the Star File for that award.Otherwise they will insist it is only to J class- but it is to Premium.

Does anyone know the rules on the old 40E international "upgrade on any individual Economy Class ticket to Business Class on AA between the U.S. and either Belgium or France or Germany or Great Britain or Spain or Sweden or Switzerland"?
1. Do co-pays apply? (Hopefully not)
2. Are they subject to the UK business class tax? (probably yes)
3. Do they work on AA coded code share flights?

The 30A award jumped out at me because for 15k miles (2 upgrades for 30k miles) one can upgrade to First even on three class flights from any coach fare. HI is the only destination prohibited.
What happens if you use the 30A award and one of the segments is waitlisted for the upgrade and never comes available. Is the second upgrade (and 15K old miles) lost forever? Could the second upgrade be used on some other flight in the future?
Also, the description of this award is that they give you two "coupons" good for upgrades. That's from back in the time when awards were on paper certificates. If you have a flight with a connection, is whatever they give you instead of a "coupon" good on both halves of a connecting flight?

the old awards are not segment one-way awards. they are "ticket" based awards; i.e., round-trip (or open jaw or circle) not just one-way.
in the old days, a 30A would give two paper certificates usable independently. I doubt the record-keeping is good enough to permit separate usage now in the all-electronic era. Best have two tickets in mind to upgrade.

I've used the 10K and 15K awards to upgrade from Y to P on 3-class aircraft. I think the next best award, after Hawaii, is 2 business class to Europe for 120K. Anyone used these? I only have 130K old miles left so I thought these would be a good use, better than 2 Hawaii F for 100K. Any thoughts?

it's probably the product that has advanced the most since then. the 1989 AA business class to europe had 38" seat pitch. I sat in the second row and the tray table scraped the seat in front with every usage.
You might also look at prizes above the 130K level. Buried in the fine print of the transition was the chance, on a one-time basis, to "use up" one's last old miles in combination with "new" miles. This came up during one of the old threads on old miles. Evidently if you can fund the majority of that last old award with "old" miles, it's claimable in combination with new miles.
I am looking for the old miles chart. In addittion is there a way to get from DFW-DUB in J class for less than $800 plus 50k miles and 4600 screw charge

That is a hefty screw charge. Go to Amsterdam instead.
Look for a J/D/I fare for less than $1400 (plus the value of the miles, say $1000) , so $2,400 return, or see if there is a B fare that uses less miles and no copay.
I've searched, found, and really appreciate the good stuff supplied by Fewmiles, especially the old awards charts. But I'm interested in recent actual experience.
Specifically, have you folks found Aadvantage staff who can help with the old mile award structure and restrictions? Has anyone booked transatlantic to destinations that AA didn't serve when the old chart was last used (example - FCO)? Any comments on capacity controls?
I did e-mail Aadvantage regarding these issues some time ago, and the reply said "Since this information is not contained on our website, we're unable to address these questions". (Of course, if I could have found the info on the site, I wouldn't have e-mailed, so I'm turning to FT).
