Citi® / AAdvantage® American Express® Card issues / questions (consolidated)
I guess AA and Amex are issueing a card through Citibank. Does anyone have a link with a better signup bonus? I went to the Citicards web site and the best they offer is 12,500. Based on recent deals I have seen I know I can do better.
Please post your best AA/Amex signup bonus link--thanks!

American Airlines AAdvantage® miles will appear as a bonus in your AAdvantage® account 8–10 weeks after your first purchase with the card. This offer is only valid for new accounts. The AAdvantage® bonus mile offer expires June 30, 2006.
AMEX Platinum Card: Domestic 2 for 1 Economy Fare Program
There is a thread going on over in the credit card forum about a new benefit of the AMEX Platinum Card. They have introduced 2 for 1 domestic companion tickets. One of the carriers is AA.
- Minimum fare for paid ticket is $299
- Paid pax gets miles (though past programs like this, people reported both earning miles)
Citi® / AAdvantage® American Express® Card questions (consolidated)
I opened my Amex account in January. Since then, miles for charges have appeared on my AA mile summary, but the bonus miles (I think it was 15,000 miles) have not posted yet. How long should one typically wait for the miles to post?

What was the spending threshold to clear for the bonus on your offer and when did you clear it?
I see that the lastest offers are $750 within 4 months, Major

I spent more than the reqired $250 in the first month and the bonus miles posted with the first statement's miles.
IME the bonus posts a few days after the statement closing date, for the statement that contains the date when you hit the mark for the initial spend terms.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was a spending threshold. All my other cards have been after the first purchase. I guess all new charges will be going to the Amex card now!
So I've called both citibank amex and aadvantage customer service because my fiance signed up for the amex that offereed a total of 40,000 bonus miles. Well apparently citibank screwed up his advantage number and swapped 2 of the letters and it turns out the aadvantage account number was valid and they posted to someone else's account (luckily this person has never used the account and doesn't know the miles were there). They should have done a name check, but apparently they didn't. I've called and explained the situation and they said it will be fixed but how long is that going to take?
Has anyone had experience with this before?
And seriously when I call to check on a transaction I want a customer service agent that has a grasp of the english language. What is going on with their customer service?

Citi American Express card 1.2 miles/$ for 1 year with no annual fee
Citi targeted me for this particular offer because I'm a Platinum Select/AAdvantage World MasterCard cardmember. Sounds like they want their cardmembers to have both the Citi Amex and the Citi MasterCard in their wallets simultaneously.
Here are the salient details (expires December 15, 2007):
1.2 AA miles per dollar for one year, 1 AA mile per dollar after that
5,000 bonus miles after my first purchase
No annual fee ever, so long as I keep my MasterCard and pay my $85 annual fee and share the 100,000 mile earning limit between the two cards (although I'm exempt from that because I'm AAdvantage PLT)
The only reason I can see for taking this offer over the non-target 20th anniversary offer available for the general public (see below) is if:
You plan on spending more than $50,000 per year on your card for the next two years
You plan on keeping the card after you get your bonus miles (that annual fee waiver would be quite nice in the long run)
You want an Amex card that offers AAdvantage miles. (Of course, with *wood's built-in 5,000 bonus miles for every 20,000 points transferred, the *wood Amex card is a better deal in the long run, so long as you can continue to redeem Starpoints for miles in the future and you don't mind paying the $45 annual fee over this fee-free card.)
For comparison, here's the current 20th anniversary offer for the general public (expires November 30, 2007):
20,000 miles after spending $750 within four months
10,000 miles after spending $10,000 the first year as a cardmember
10,000 miles after spending $10,000 the second year as a cardmember
No annual fee for 12 months
Special benefits through the entré program for Amex cardmembers until December 31, 2007
Here's the letter they sent out to me:
