THANK YOU!

I'm finally in the process of fighting my addiction to those things and after some ambivalence, am actually feeling pretty darned good about closing my SPG Amex account. Just 2 more credit cards left, and I must admit my wallet and my spirits are a lot lighter these days, especially when I pay those last two off. I'll probably keep them open (including the Citi AA M/C) just to not drop my FICO too much, plus for emergencies and those times you need a cc (like car rentals).

Since I don't travel a lot for business these days, I finally sat down and figured out my chasing status, points and bonuses often led to me spending more needlessly, rather than just outright buying the flights and hotel rooms that I want.

Sometimes it's hard to break an old habit, so it's nice to hear the voice of sanity

If you're carrying a balance, you're paying a lot more for your affinity card(s) than you are gaining. I would dump the Citi AAdvantage card in your case and ask Citi for their lowest APR card. Affinity cards almost always carry very high interest rates and should not be used for those that do not pay off their cards each month (although the banks love it when you do otherwise).

My magic 8 ball says 'all signs point to yes', unless something has changed recently. May want to call to confirm, but other have reported success, and they are different cards, so it's worth a shot. It worked with chase for me and the UA cards, and I'm adding the amex and biz AA cards to my May AOR to complement my existing AA MC.

is no annual fee with MC and 1.2 miles/$ apply to all Citi AMEX?

Hi all,

I have a question.
I was also targeted for the no annual fee AAdvantage AMEX because I have a Gold AA MC. I know the promotion has been discussed about the 1.2 miles per dollar for 1 year and no annual fee as long as I continue to have the AA MC. And 5000 bonus miles.

Clearly this makes no sense in regards to bonus miles if I decide to just sign up for the Citi AA AMEX for 25,000 bonus miles and no annual fee for the first year, or the Citi Select AA Amex for 15,000 miles bonus for the regular Citi AA AMEX.

If I open either the Citi Select AA Amex, or Regular Citi AA Amex, for the 25,000 or 15,000 bonus miles, do I:
1. Earn 1.2 miles on the dollar for one year using the new Citi AA Amex.

Or

2. Never have to pay an annual fee since I have a concurrently active Citi AA MC?

or does none of it apply because each promotion is completely independent of each other and I just earn the 15k or 20k bonus miles and first year annual fee waived only?

thanks

i believe you buddy. Once I get to 2MM (lifetime PLAT), i'm hopping over to United and will be working on my 1MM BIS Miles for lifetime premier exec! (equiv to AA Plat).

Actually, what would be kinda cool is to be at 1,999,995 AA Lifetime miles and at 999,500 United Lifetime BIS miles and book a United flight like say SFO-ORD in F. Exactly 500 miles into the flight, I'll pull have the FA swipe my AA MC for a $5-$6 snack box and at that moment, I will become a Lifetime AA Platinum Member and simultaneously, a Lifetime United Premier Executive Member!

I've read that being at altitude for long periods of time has this effect on people.

You've lost it, dude. Buying on board?

how else can I cross two milestones at the same moment? I'd be achieving lifetime mid tier status on not just United Airlines but also American Airlines via that buy on board credit card purchase...remember, all miles count for AA lifetime status...
