i'd recommend applying for the new one first, then cancelling. I've done that twice before.

There are many threads on credit card churning (which is what you are proposing to do) in the Other Credit Cards forum. I highly recommend that you do a search there.

Generally, you can apply for a Citi AA card every 60 days

It may have a minor affect on your credit score and is not recommended if you are thinking of applying for a mortgage or other large loan in the near term (like within a year)
