Nice to know the signal-to-noise ratio is still really weak...

I'd be interested in anyone's experiences in terms of whether both pax get miles and are eligible for electronic upgrades.

It is a shame that this program isn't valid for domestic first class/YUP fares...

I used it to purchase tickets and will be traveling tomorrow. The reservation was able to input into AA.com and electronic upgrades for both of us have cleared on one segment. So far so good. Saved about $200. Tried to call AA and upgrade tickets to YUP with no success.

There is a thread on AMEX, but I need AA specific.
Thanks
How much is the yearly fee? That would affect the cost-benefit ratio.

Only the paying passenger earns FF miles. If there is a fluke, a happenstance, or a mistake the other pax may get miles -- but don't count on it.

This thread would be more useful if everyone were talking about the same AmEx program.

For more information on the AmEx domestic coach companion program, see this thread:

http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=666178

So far people have reported being able to electronically upgrade and earn miles on the companion ticket. I'll report in the thread linked to above next week.

using aa citi credit card to get elite qp or qm

When I was flying on dl, one could get "medalion" (base miles) by charging $25000 in a year to a dl amex platinum card--I even made gold (equivalent to aa plat) by buying us govt I-bonds (they counted as a cc transaction then, no longer possible.)
Has aa ever allowed credit transactions to count into qp or qm's?

In 20 years, AA may have had a short-term promo once or twice that allowed citi-card miles to be elite qualifying, but I can't recall any. Just over $4,000/mo charged to the card for each of the last 240 months is just about enough for lifetime gold (1 million) all on its own. Spend just half that amount on airfare (not all that difficult) and you'd easily be lifetime Plat (2 million) by now.

But that would make it all the less special when everyone else is special too.

Wife open Citi card in her name using my AA account?

Is that possible? I did a bunch of searching but couldn't find the answer. She's already an authorized user on all of my cards and we have all those going into my AA account. Today she got an offer for the AA Amex for the 40k miles and it got me wondering if she could open the account and enter my AA number in when it asks so I get the miles. I read through the terms of the CC and couldn't find a definitive answer. Anyone know?

No, not possible. There is a name ( and I belive date of birth) verfication process that happens.

What's the big deal anyway?. Have her get an AAdvantage number, get the miles, and keep it all in the family.

Worth a try. Worst that can happen is it doesn't work and you cancel the card. Would not be at all surprised if it works.

Actually worth a try, as mentioned in that earlier post, if the points do not post, then just say that she accidentally picked up your AAdvantage card and put in the details. Here are the correct details.

I tried this with a Starwood card and it didn;t go through. Maybe you'll have better luck with the Citicard. Let us know.
