As a citibank aa visa card holder, am I able to take advantage of this offer?
The terms & conditions are a bit confusing to me - they state only valid for new accounts. I'm not sure if I'd qualify. It's a new citibank mastercard account for me, but I do already have a citibank visa account.

search forums for "churning." i remember one person posted about getting to 1MM solely (or mostly) based on this. AA apparently hasnt (or chosen not to) wise up to this like UA has and still gives the bonus miles to people with existing cards. the only catch is that you have to wait 3 months between cards but another poster reported successfully applying for every different type at the same time and getting them.

Hi everyone,
I opened a Citi AA MC in March 2006. My April statement closed yesterday and I didn't see a charge for an annual fee. When does Citi usually charge it? I thought they would do it at the end of the first year, which in my case is this month.
My account number was changed just this month because I apparently had used it at TJ Maxx one day and my number was one of those that might have been stolen. They gave me a new number to prevent unauthorized use, which was a good move on their part. Since I now have a new account number, did they "forget" to transfer my old account info to charge the fee? Any idea? Of course, I'm not complaining about them not charging me the fee, but I'm just wondering.
Has anyone had experiences using the AMEX PLT Domestic 2 for cert on AA. Specifically earning miles on both tkts and upgrades.
There is a thread on AMEX, but I need AA specific.
Thanks
Usually with the AMEX rules - the 2 for 1 is only available on the highest fare classes /basis (F/Y full fare). It is usually lower cost to buy 2 regualr tickets in coach or discounted first.
Programs: AA ExPlat 3MM, AA Life Plat, Lufthansa FT, Delta Basic

The AMEX 2x1 offer has become a typical useless bait offer for most. It may have been good 10+ years ago when discounted F or J fares practically did not exist, so a 50% effective discount was well worth it. Now, discounted front cabin fares abound and the Amex offer is only good for a spouse (or a tryst) accompanying at the last minute on a business trip. Any other situation is cheaper using discounted fares or airlines.

I think the question is about the DOMESTIC program which is only for coach seats.

This was true until recently. AMEX just started offering 2-for-1 for ALL coach travel booked on an AMEX Platinum, provided that your tix are booked through their travel services (fares are usually comparable to what one can find online through Orbitz or Travelocity -- that is, $2-10 more than direct booking).
This is a new benefit, and you can use it four times per year. If you can qualify for a Platinum card, and often travel domestically with your spouse, the benefit basically will pay for the card. There are a few caveats (sat night stay or two-night minimum; $299 minimum ticket cost (899 to HI/AK); coach only; don't always get to choose your airline).
I have not yet used this benefit. One of my coworkers has used it twice since the program began, and he has been exceptionally pleased: one flight AA JFK-->Honolulu (AA) for a week with the spouse; one flight JFK-->SFO for a weekend getaway (PS on UA).
