... and you're allowed to bring a guest into lounges, although I'm not 100% sure about all One World lounges.
It is a stated oneworld benefit that a Sapphire can bring "one guest travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline" into a oneworld lounge when the Sapphire is entitled to access the lounge.
Unlike prior years no minimum mileage is required though you must have flown at least one segment.
What was the minimum mileage required for Plat buy-back in prior years?
(I don't need to do it this year, but will next year, as it's a "burn" year for me, and I can't even come close to Plat requal the normal way in a year where all my big trips are award trips. So I'd like to be aware of what variations in requirements they've done in prior years, in case they go back to something like one of those next year.)

As I understand it, there isn't a minimum #of miles that have to be flown in order to take the buy back option, rather the closer you are to the 25K or 50K, the lower the cost of your buy back.
I know I read that American has in the past allowed elite members to pay for renewal of their status. I am a platinum member however am going to fall about 8000 miles short this year for platinum renewal. Any way I can buy the renewal? Thanks in advance for the help.

We try to encourage people to read and search before posting questions, but in the spirit of the season:
Can I assume that as long as you have flown 1 qualifying segment that this is the only eligibility requirement? I am not sure if originally qualifying for Plat via a challenge would stop this offer from being available?

I read 549$ which is still a rip off but worth the money if someone doesnt really want to spend a whole weekend flying to europe and back (like I did) to retain PLT. Actually I did it for nothing, just because I was so short and I like to have a status card for OW as well as *A in case of irrops and rebookings. Next year I might even consider it, who knows
