I suppose policy could change at any time, but at least right now, they're not offering it. But then again, that offer doesn't usually become active until January anyway, right?
Looking good as this link now reads "coming soon" rather than just "this offer has expired". Ths will not help OP though as stated previously you can not re-qualify by buy back two years in a row.

Never has been. Consensus of EXPs here is that there shouldn't be. Must confess I felt the same when I was one (through 2/07).
fwiw i spoke to exp desk a week or so ago when it looked as tho i might only have 99k miles due to aa's pesistent failure to post a couple of OW partner flights correctly as AA codeshare and they tried (for the 4th time) to credit the miles but also told me to "call in january if you're stuck at 99k and we'll see what we can do for you".
that said, the OW flights posted so i wont need to test that possibility!

Since we have maintained our status mainly on points, (money spent) which is obviously important to the airlines since they make it available by giving you 1.50 for First class, I was wondering if I had any BETTER chance to being comped since we make trips like this every year.

That email made me chuckle too... Why do people think they're the ones who pay for the braces and college educations of families of airline employees when making not just 6-10 trips per year, but FULL FARE. Woo Hoo, bust out the bubbly! Not franzia - sparkling wine! We just hit our sales goals for the decade.

Not directly ... You'd either need to do a challenge or be comp'd/status matched if you belong to a company with a very large corporate travel account that includes an agreement with AA to allow such action ...
cheers!

If you don't have gold now, that means you don't fly much. What are the benefits of buying gold for you?
I need to make a few hundred thousand dollars in purchases over the next several months, but my advantage Mastercard has a 60k annual mileage cap. This cap is lifted for Golds and above. It would be well worth it to me to pay a few hundred bucks to earn the extra miles.

There is a program to pre-pay travel with AA that comes with automatic status. IIRC $5K-->GLD; $10K-->PLT; $20K-->EXP
You can either search or someone here may have the link and post it. I don't know if it has been offered yet for 2008. I also don't know if this will include the benefit you desire--you'd have to check Ts&Cs.
cheers!

Ideas to Keep PLT Status
Unfortunately this year I spent a lot of time flying Delta and NWA, so I have not flown enough on AA to keep my PLT status for 2008.
Does anyone have ideas on how I can keep my status? I do not have any booked flights for 2008 yet btw. I am not even sure if I will be traveling, but I am hoping I do.
