One way is to try to be creative with existing necessary travel.

e.g. Change that CDG-LHR flight to CDG-AMS-LHR.

i'm 4450 short and I'm doing an MR at month end just to be sure. I don't have any work trips planned although they should come up.. but just in case.. a quick turn around will do the trick

The posts have started .....

Every year about this time of year we get the 'I do not think I will make [insert level]'.

The winner for this year was an October 3rd post already ... 2007 AA status (EXP / Plat / Gold) requalification issues / questions / concerns and now we have another one.

While a sticky might be applicable (it would be there all year long to remind us to FLY FLY FLY) .. I am not sure of the solution. I wish I had a solution to recommend to the moderators so weekly we would not get additional posts asking the same question.

First .. what happened LAST year (or the years before) has no bearing on what WILL happen this year. AA may continue the 'exceptions' method, they may not. Only AA knows for sure!

If you value your benefits, you will try and complete the requalification.

Status buy-back for PLT and GLD (there NEVER has been one for EXP) has been announced prior years between December 12 - 15th. BUT are you willing to 'fall back' if they do not offer it again this year? THAT is your decision and no one on this forum knows for certain.

Also, what happened to one poster (or a posters sisters husband's cousin) may be inaccurate and may not happen to you.

I personally value my EXP level a lot. Eventhough working only partime due to medical reasons, I am doing MRs to make EXP (yes I will by Thanksgiving) on my good weeks. I know when I get back to full time working, I will make EXP by mid-year as per normal.

Solution?

FLY!

I guess I'm baffled as to how someone can make these posts 2 1/2 months prior to year end for a measly 2K miles no less

Stay on them to post it, they will eventually get tired of you calling and do it.

Seriously. I stopped flying for work this year, and knew I was going to be short. I did a mileage run to SCL this weekend to make sure, and made a mini-trip of it. I only need 1400 miles now. If you know you're going to be short 2k miles already, why even post?

To see if we can absolutely, positively guarantee that they will be able to slime in while not meeting the qualification requirements. Not surprisingly, we can't.

Cheers.

I am doing two one day mileage runs in addition to a couple long weekends in Costa Rica just to maintain Plat. I'm with everyone else here ... just book a trip.

This is sheer lunacy. I would fly that on the next weekend. Go to fare compare and find a cheap MR to be done with it. Thats just DFW to ORD and back... a mere breeze for EXP!

Like the retailer ads for the "Christmas" holiday sales this malarkey just seems to start earlier and earlier each year. At least the ads usually have something new to read.

Requalifying EXP

As you are based in Paris, make one or two RTs on BA, AY, MA or IB, checking the mileage rules for fares. I believe MA/AY are the most generous compared to IB/BA. One RT to Helsinki or to Malaga via MAD should be enough, top it off with a RT to London if necessary.

Hmmm - the FT AA Wiki is quite specific on this: Exception Policy.

This was Created/Edited January 18th 2007.
