Nothing like getting flamed on the AA thread, man it's brutal here....
Understood, and apology accepted. Might I suggest that, if you posted more, you'd be less inclined to flame at people for their comments in a thread, and not order them to move on? I think it would make it a more pleasant place for all of us

Two posters asked about "lifetime" status for 1 and 2 million miles respectively.
Upon completion of one million miles (not BIS miles) you get a letter that for the life of the American Advantage program or until the rule is changed, you will forever be Gold. You also a number of upgrade certificates, I believe it was 8. Upon completion of Two million miles, you get the similar arrangement for Platinum.
This was true and accurate as recently as this past winter when I completed my 1MM. And yes, it is true - the second million goes much faster - I'm at 1.3 million already.
There are consistent rumours that this policy is going to either end or the numbers be raised.
BTW, this information is covered in the stickies at the top of the threads list and is another reason why stickies exist - the good basic info they offer. (I know, a wimpy flame - but it is Hanukah...)

No, actually, the exact wording is that at 1MM, you will be Gold "for the life of the AAdvantage Gold program." At 2+MM, you will be Platinum "for the life of the AAdvantage Platinum program."
In other words, if AA decides to get rid of either elite program, you could lose your lifetime status even if AAdvantage itself continues to exist
Are you sure about this part? Granted, it's been a long time since I got my 1 and 2MM letters, but I don't recall the clause that changing the rule would revoke the lifetime status. In other words, if they decided to do away with LT GLD at 1MM and/or L PLT at 2MM, I don't recall wording that they would take it away from those who already had it. Obviously, if GLD or PLT go away, it's a different story, as noted.
Yeah, I saw his, and yours was somewhat different. Your post indicated that it was wording from the letter as well, so the inconsistency had me concerned.
AAdvantage members represent 51% of AA Passenger Revenue
AAdvantage elites represent 26% of AA Passenger Revenue
With that in mind, one out of the every four AA passengers is an AAdvantage elite. The ratios in the premium cabins are presumably higher with the upgrades.

Not really. 25% of the passengers' DOLLARS, not 25 percent of the passengers. Given corp travel among elites, i'm sure the % is much lower

Two minor additions:
1. For 2MM (lifetime Platinum) and above you get four system-wide upgrade eVIPs, not eight 500-mile North American "sticker" upgrades.
2. If your address of record is outside North America, this applies to 1MM (lifetime Gold) as well. There has been some discussion here about how long your address has to have been there, and exactly what the definition of "North America" is in this context, but AFAIK nobody has disagreed with the general statement.

I've noticed that flying DFW - AUS or AUS - DFW, I've seen more Exec Plats, and ones with the 1 million or more on the bag tag.
Other than that, I don't see much Exec Plats. Even the DFW - LAX, DFW - SNA, I don't see much.
I also find this thread interesting, since it is optional to read threads, I assume those that don't will move on.
You may not see a lot in DFW (surprising since it is a hub) but last year on my December flight on 289 from ORD-PVG I was one of 29 EXP. Another flight ORD-LAX had 10 EXP.
