So now Citibank says no 5,000 mile bonus

Last year, I signed up for Citibank's AAdvantage Mastercard 25,000 mile promotion. The deal was 20,000 miles after $250 purchase and 5,000 miles on one year anniversary date of getting the card.

I called in today regarding something else and just confirmed I would be getting the 5,000 miles on my anniversary date. I was told by the rep that I had already received the 20,000 miles after first purchase and that was all I was supposed to receive.

The rep said if you can show evidence of the promotion, you can send it in to customer service and I would be credited. I have no proof because I did not print it out!!! LESSON LEARNED!!!

I am considering cancelling this card and applying for the new 40,000 mile promotion going on. I asked the rep if I would be able to get that promotion since I already had a card and was told "yes, if you qualify for the card, you get the miles."

Yes you will get the bonus if you signup. I will recommend you to signup for multiple cards at the same time but dont wait for the second anniversary bonus. If you spend 10K before the anniversary, just cancel and signup again before the 40K bonus expires.

I suspect someone here will have a copy of the promotion terms that they can send to you.

If you remember where, approximately, you saw it and when, you can try the Internet Wayback Machine.

Did you pay the membership "fee" for this offer?

I signed my mother up for the 25K offer last year... it was before (by only a month) they were offering the 20K deal with NO fee. So she was charged the $50 for the first year and got the miles. Right after that we got the offer for 20K miles with NO fee. I think I may have the original offer for the 25K Miles. If this is the one you're looking for (w/fee) PM me and I'll see if I can scan you in the offer (if it's not recipient specific).

I'd be interested in getting a a copy of this offer too, Carolyn, as I signed up for the same offer and then (won't do this again) didn't keep the promotion paperwork. Thanks for your help.

Mary,
Will PM if I find the papers... think it's "somewhere" downstairs..
will definitely be looking for it though right now I've got "so many" citi cards for Mom that I might just let this card go when the fee gets posted (unless citi's generous with comping it).

5k is a pittance compared to what you can get by getting multiple cards, especially since, in this case, you'd have to pay the annual fee.

Thanks so much, Carolyn. I would much appreciate a copy of this offer as I know it's the one I signed up for about this time last year. Now I know you absolutely *have* to keep all this paperwork from Citibank or you've got no leg to stand on when it comes to claiming awards!

BTW--re: the annual fee, most folks on here (including me) call Citibank before the annual fee's actually billed and only agree to pay it if Citi agrees to give them some extra AA miles. I got 3,000 though I believe other folks on here were able to wangle up to 5,000 out of them.

So now Citibank says no 5,000 bonus

Call ACS and have them get Citi on the phone with you. Tell the ACS rep on what date you received your card. ACS has a list of promotions and their dates of start/end, depending on the type of card you have. They should be able to get a Citi rep on the phone to assist you.
