How about the 20K bonus for AA Citicard?

Have recently used that ploy hence trying to top up to an award level. Sorry I should have expanded on my question.

Tom suggested two, uh, "ploys". Which one have you used already?

I assume you need these quickly, otherwise you would have time to write is something other than fragments.

Hi, I just like thought it was best to keep posts short. I have recently got the AA Citi Card and had some bonus miles added. As such I have begun to look at how I could build up the miles to reach 40,000 for a reward flight. I am not in a big hurry per se - just thought there may be some FT ploys for reaching this level sooner than I might otherwise. Thanks for the assistance.

The OP is wanting to keep the posts short and crytpic eh?

In other posts (today or yesterday) they are looking for 22k points on AC forum, 2050 points on the Flying Blue forum and some unknown points on the Hilton Honors forum.

Interestingly enough they have 150k points and a question posted on the BA forum.

Guess its a case of having lots of miles on one carrier yet needing small amounts on several other programs.

Buy something, buy the miles, transfer them from a friend, or the old fashioned method - FLY!

Nothing cryptic meant nor intending to offend. Merely able to travel after spending 2 years on dialysis and 3 years post renal transplant and want to use the points/ miles built up over years previously.

The 2 4 1 with BA is imminent and therefore more pressing then the other programmes of which I have not posted a thread and have similarly high levels of points / mileages.

I thought this might be the forum for asking such simple questions.

Thanks anyway.

This is a forum for such simple questions - its just a matter of providing enough information w/the initial post so that people can assist. You need 7K miles but already have the citibank card, what other ways are there to acquire miles cheaply. You could buy them from AA $175.00 - which isn't exactly cheap but they should post to your acct. rather quickly. If you know someone willing to "share" 7K miles, the fee is slightly less. Again, these usually only take 72 hrs or so to process. YOu can find information on these options on aa.com/aadvantage.

As an alternative, some hotel programs let you flip their points into miles (both Marriott and Starwood) and https://www.aadvantageeshopping.com
also could help you. The problem is these transactions can take a month to six weeks to post to your account.

I was not meaning to be negative, but many times forums get these type of postings from a new poster ... when I noted your similar posts on other forums (not sure what TOS says about similar postings tho exact postings are looked down upon).

Before FT I know I have lost miles/points on DL and probably hotels for lack of use .. so I understand your question.

As mentioned, shopping is a good option tho it takes 3-6 weeks for things to post (my IPod I bought 6+ weeks ago only recently posted). Buying the miles (tho there is a cost) is fairly decent for this number of miles ... tho the ideal would be a flight to get the miles (depending on your status it might be one single flight) tho you may want to compare that to the buying of the miles.

That said, AA is a bit fickle in their SAAver vs AAnytime awards. If you are 7K short of the SAAver level, make certain WHERE you want to go (on the dates you need) are available for the miles .. vs AAnytime at double the miles.

Also, again, not knowing your location, AA tier nor total miles, consider other options such as upgrade (ok upgrade with co-pay on International) vs an award ticket. Also look at higher levels if lower are not available ... eg look at 90K for Business if coach not available (or 125K for First if Business is not available - this tends to work if you have this many miles).

Also consider a month-to-month membership in ExpertFlyer to locate the flights with aaward or upgrade inventory (they have a +/- three days feature which is great). I have had great success in locating flights where the upgrade can be confirmed at the time of booking.

Lastly, look at the longer range. An aaward will use all your miles (potentially). An upgrade will use some miles tho get you back more miles (and potentially consider a Challenge to get a tier for the bonus miles option). Not sure on the BA miles how the exact option you are looking for might give OneWorld opportunities but it is also something to consider.

I too am dealing with some health issues and travel for work or fun when I can. I tend to try and accumulate MORE miles (trying to keep EXP) rather than use them for myself (tho I do use them for friends who want to travel with me). I'm doing a MR this weekend for 4119 base miles (8674 total miles including bonus) for $283. Tho I am based in the US (your BA/KLM miles indicate you might not be based in the US) so it is possibly easier for me. Or BA to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean (to use the BA miles transpond) and then conect with some AA flights in the US like LHR-YYZ(BA)-JFK-LAX-DFW-MIA-YYZ(AA)-LHR(BA). Unfortunately this summer the good discount fares are getting harder to find...

Best of luck with the miles .. and with your health.

JR

Get a Starwoods american express card with 10K bonus miles.
Convert them over to AA if you're in a hurry as soon as they post, usually takes less than a week.
aa.rewardsnetwork.com is another easy source of miles, not mentioned though takes long too.

Wow, that's a new one. Totally different from previous queries about people being short 2000, 5000, or 8000 miles.

Points.com. You get 10 miles for signup. 2250 to upgrade to gold for $49.95.

Netflix - 9.99 for one month. Signing up gets you 1500 AA miles (down from 2500 a couple of months ago)

Eshopping - details on the AA website
AA labed credit card - 20000 (? Is this still there?)

Oh yeah, you can rack up them pretty fast by flying.

Thumbs up Thank you

Thank you all for your advice.

I am based in the UK and there are 2 of us as you may possibly have guessed. Once again apologies for any inadvertent confusion. I now realise that some of the suggestions are not available to me but I am nevertheless grateful for them. I am also sorry if I was too brief originally.

Buying them is not a bad option with the $ exchange rate with the £ at present and I will look into that once I have investigated the NetFix and Points.com gold upgrade the latter of which may assist with one of my other posts.

Indeed the other posts have also highlighted a misconception on my part regarding the BA Amex 2 4 1 and now the required total AA miles may be 35,000 to get from mainland USA to Hawaii meaning I only need about 2,000 AA miles.

Thank you once more for your invaluable input.

Need 640 AA miles- any ideas

Outside of getting AA Credit card, any ideas how I can get the missing 640 AA miles I need for a reward. So far I basically came to the conclusion to spend $64 on AA dining.
