Special Promotions do not earn any elite qualifying points (or miles or segments).
To fly, you have to shell out $.
With the increase in international copay and such .. the few $ you shell out now will certainly be rewarded with the eVIPs ....

BOS-ORD is $228 on 12/29 and if you want to risk a 35 minute connection you can be home by noon.
Just donate the minimum 250 miles to either Miles for Kids or Make A Wish (you can do it over the phone with AAdvantage Customer Service). That gives you another 3 years instantly without having to worry about some partner promotion posting.
We have 45k miles in our AA account, and need 30 for a 75k ticket, quickly. Transferring 15k from a friend costs $180, buying another 15k costs $405. So plus taxes fees about $650 to get a ticket which goes for $1200. It may be worth it for me, but is there any better way?

Have you taken advantage of any of the promos to apply for an AA credit card? Some of those could give you 20K, but they're not going to post until you have the card in hand and go at least one statement cycle.

You're saving $550 and using 45,000+ miles (where the plus is whatever you would gain if you booked the ticket in a fare-earning class). That's awfully close to $0.01 per mile, depending on how many miles the trip is. Are you sure that's worthwhile to you?
I see what you are saying about value, but haven't found any other use for the miles in a while. The credit card is not good for immediate miles. I'm just wondering if there is some other cheaper way to get them.
