I don't remember too well but I think there's some sort of law in California that governs coupon expiration dates and basically states that coupons in CA do NOT expire regardless of the expiration date printed on them.
Do I remember right or was I dreaming?
and would it also apply to these certificates? ( I still have one from 2005 I think, obviously expired by now..)
The queries given above would go into the origin and destination boxes on http://matrix.itasoftware.com. For example, you could do a search for fares from
SFO:: AA+ /f bc=k|bc=l|bc=m|bc=w|bc=v to
JFK:: AA+ /f bc=k|bc=l|bc=m|bc=w|bc=v
for your dates of choice.
Or a search from
SFO;SJC;OAK:: AA+ /f bc=k|bc=l|bc=m|bc=w|bc=v to
JFK;LGA;EWR:: AA+ /f bc=k|bc=l|bc=m|bc=w|bc=v
The fare quotes in the results of such a query would be fares in the K, L, M, W and V buckets - the ones to which the cert applies.
To compare with the lowest available AA fares for the same route and dates, simply remove the portion beginning with "/f" (that's what restricts the booking codes).
You can use these query specifications with any of the ITA searches (round-trip, one-way, weekend search, month search, etc).
I have had this card for three weeks, however I have not yet had my first bill. I got this card as part of the AAdvantage 25 promo. First year free, 25,000 miles and companion cert. I have already received the 25,000 miles. When will I get the companion cert. Thank you for your help.
Back in May AA had their 25th anniversary deal on a Mastercard where you got bonus miles for signing up and also got a companion certificate. I never got mine but it should be on its way now it seems.
My question is does anyone know the rules or restrictions on those cerrtificates? Any blackout dates, etc? Spefically during Dec 23 - 28, and minimum price of tickets, etc... Thanks..
Citi companion ticket issues and questions (consolidated)
I have one of these at home given to me by citi bank when i opened a new AA Mastercard. I would look at the fine print but i am on a trip.
are these transferable?
are there rules on who the ticketed person may be and who the companion is.
i.e. if mr. azmmza is the person named on the ticket can mrs. azmmza book the paid ticket (she could use the EQM) and mr. azmmza fly as the companion? or do i have to book the ticket and she fly as companion?
Thanks

The back of the certificate says that it must be used "by the Citi/AAdvantage cardmember named on reverse to one round trip coach ticket for a companion when an individual adult round trip coach class excursion fare ticket is purchased using the Citi/AAdvantage card."
"This certificate is nontransferable and may be used only by the cardmember named on the certificate or by his/her spouse/dependent child with the companion of his/her choice. Other family members are not eligible to redeem this certificate."
Still, depending on the ticketing agent, I think you might be allowed to designate who you wanted to be on the paid ticket and who on the companion ticket, especially if the last names match.
I have one of these certificates and it specifically says that only the person who's name is on the certificate will earn miles. The person using the "free" ticket will not earn miles.
Of course, this has already been discussed quite a bit. here is an instance where a number of people (ok, a few) report both people earning miles, and upgrades being allowed. (Search terms "citibank companion")

Has anyone got experience with this? My wife earned the companion certificate, but I'd like book and pay for the ticket and fly her as the companion.
We just used one recently. I earned it by getting a new citi mastercard. We reserved it with my husband as the paid ticket and me as the companion. We both earned miles and got an upgrade to first on the outbound flight.
Here's my experience about the voucher (though I haven't used it yet on purchasing a ticket). In the course of trying to max out miles in my mother's account I opened a AA cc in her name. Know that I'll "eventually" get all her miles and will probably wait till then to "acquire them" since we still have a decent # of miles in my (and DH's) account. I'm counting on her miles to "put me over" to 1MM mark (we're just starting to churn) since we usually use award tickets. I charge the miles, DH "flies" them. My's an invalid and there's no way that she can actually use the certificates. I'm also authorized 2party on the cc a/c. So I called up advantage customer service and explained that "there's no way that Mom's ever going to be wheeled on a flight" (let alone step on) and was there any way to use the certs. They sent me a postcard w/codes letting me use her voucher for the 2for 1. Not sure if we'll use them since we usually have a hard time finding a domestic flight that's "worth" spending $299 prior to taxes. It's nice to know that both passengers "should" earn the miles flown. That might make a trans-con worthwhile.
I'd suggest appealing to AA customer service, you might get lucky (as I was).
Good luck.

this may have been discussed in another thread, but are there known conditions that make the use of a companion ticket useful? it seems that every time i try to use it, the increased fares make using the voucher more expensive than if i were to go onto AA's website to buy two tickets. i'm looking for something like "only useful for long trips, short trips, X amount of time before the flight, etc. any thoughts would be helpful
