I dropped to plat for a year and I was very excited to make EXP again. flying every week in coach after having been in first for so long makes you appreciate your status and the benefits so much more!!!

Grat thanks for the advice... live in Barcelona and most of my travel is via the US so wanted to know the rules for when I call the desk to get the upgrade...

Me too. Next flight will do the trick! Looking forward to getting my self esteem back!
Yep, it's certainly unbelievable that they would keep seats up front available for purchase when they can give them away for free.
Point taken. I guess I'm unclear about the benefit of multiple upgrade windows (72hrs PLT vs. 100hrs EXP). Makes perfect sense to hold back a seat or two up front for last minute $$, I just thought having the longer window to get confirmed would provide better access to inventory up front. Probably so, just not on the routes I'm traveling.

Well, for the first time I have earned enough EQPs to qualify for EXP. Of course, I qualified based on EQM over four months ago. Probably won't get the 100 segments to make it a trifecta though.

The next 3 weeks will be very eventful assuming schedule holds.
1. Go EXP 11/23 (segment #100 AE #3240 LBB-DFW).
2. Cross 1,000,000 miles 12/3 AA #1129 DFW-AUS.
3. Based on booked travel through 12/15, should have +/- 88,000 EQMs.
My calculations are that I will get 8 SWUs for going EXP (good through 2/11), 4 SWUs for going 1 million miles (with no expiration), and 4 more SWUs if I can get to 125,000 EQMs (that would expire 2/11).
(Yes, I did a seach of both the AA website, their EXP propaganda that comes with the EXP card, and DStan's truly wonderful wiki.[/b]
Thank you in advance.

The 1M mile barrier will net you 8 500 mile upgrades if your profile is right and you are USA based unless you've managed to move your account address somewhere where you can't use 500 miles upgrades.

i don't quite see the question here, but I can offer some clarification, specifically re: the million mile SWUs:
#1 - the standard reward for crossing 1MM is 8 500 mile upgrade stickers, not 4 SWUs; the SWU reward is giving to 1MM members who reside outside the US. You list your location as DFW so it doesn't seem that you would qualify - and, if you do a bit of searching, you'll find that conveniently timed int'l address changes are monitored; all members who reach 2MM (and any add'l MM level) receive 4 SWU
#2 - the SWUs associated with the MM benefit do indeed expire; and those earned this year would expire in 2011 just the like others you have listed
Yes, AA offers unpublished lifetime GLD status at 1 million miles from all sources (flying and non-flying), and lifetime PLT status at 2 million miles from all sources. At 1 million miles, U.S.-based flyers also receive eight 500-mile / sticker upgrades while non-U.S.-based flyers receive four systemwide upgrades. At each million mile increment thereafter, all flyers receive four additional systemwide upgrades. There is no lifetime EXP status. Note that lifetime status does not give a ‘head-start’ on achieving the next higher elite level annually.
