Is there an Executive Platinum Challenge? (consolidated)
I'm a UA 1k, living in Chicago, but moving to Dallas in about 30 days. I contacted AA about matching my 1k status, and received a call last night (about 1 week after my initial faxing information over), offering me platinum status on the spot, and a challenge to get to executive platinum status, starting the 1st or 16th of any month I choose.
I've got to do 25,000 points within 90 days to reach exec. plat, based on a June 1st start date for my challenge. She could have back-dated it to the 1st of May, used the 16th of May, etc. 25,000 points will be tough - I don't think I can MR that much in the next 90 days, so let's hope work sends me out of the country.
This is the first I've heard of a challenge to executive platinum, so I thought I'd share the news.

I would bet that the OP was offered the plat challenge. Not a challenge to EXPLAT.
The details exactly match the plat challenge "I've got to do 25,000 points within 90 days". The OP probably wanted to hear that he was getting plat and heard what he posted.

Umm, not exactly, as the plat challenge is 10,000 points within 90 days

I added the bolding to highlight the number of points. PLT Challenge (at least when I did it last year) is 10,000 points, not 25K as the OP said.
Assuming for just a minute that the OP might have been offered what he says he was - 25K points is 25% of the "normal" qualifying number of points (100K) for EXP - a higher percentage than the 20% of the normal qualifying number of points necessary for a GLD or PLT challenge (5K/25K and 10K/50K, respectively). Also, the OP was pretty clear that the AA person said points, not merely miles.
Now, if we were to suspend disbelief and allow for the mere possibility of an EXP challenge, these don't seem like completely unreasonable terms for it, do they?
(And no, I don't really think there's an EXP challenge, but...)
