How to transfer Amex / American Express MR points to AA? (consolidated)
I've had an AMEX card for a year now and have collected many points. Typically I fly transatlantically on VS, but recently I've been happier with AA and the PLT status because of the benefits (such as AC access both sides and double miles )
Originally I planned to use AMEX for upgrading to Virgin's Upper Class this Christmas but I've noticed that AA are selling first class for the same price as business class at the moment so I'd get the flat bed etc etc anyway (UC vs. Buisness leaves AA lagging until 2007! but F and UC are the same).
Therefore, I have possible redundant AMEX points which I'd love to transfer into AAdvantage miles... question is, is this possible as I can't see how?
You might try using www.points.com 150 mile bonus for signing up if ur AA elite and 10% bonus for transfering points to AA. I think you can go from AMEX-HAwaiian airmiles-AAdvantage miles, but im not sure the ratios. I've tried e-mailing the support staff but have yet to recieve a response.

As mentioned in previous posts, while you CAN transfer AMEX to AA, the dilution is severe. I'm sitting on 300K AMEX MR points, because I don't want to take the hit. One way to boost the number is to wait for Starwood to run their semi-annual promo, wherein they give you 50 cents on the dollar instead of 33 for your MR points, then you can transfer these in 20K chunks to AA, getting a 25% bonus. This scenario will net you 62.5 cents on the dollar.
Last good opportunity to do that was when AA bought TWA's assets and on-the-ball holders of MR points transferred them to TWA's program (which then became AA miles). Dunno if there's any way to do it right now.
As many of the threads above point out, but usually obliquely to go to www.webflyer.com
On the right side of the page, Second Column, Second row there is a feature called Mileage Converter.
Enter the Originating program
How many points you want to move out
Your desired Destination Program
then press continue.
It will then think for a moment and bring up a page showing you how to get from Program A to Program B, directly or through multiple passthroughs. It will even show you the transfer ratios all the way through.
So putting in 50,000 MR points will get you 16,950 miles if you go through Starwood, but only 15,000 miles through most of the other paths.

Depending on how many MR points you have, the SPG Nights & Flights might be a good buy. For 60K SPG points, you get 5 nights at a Cat 3, and 50K airline miles.
