Debblues,

In the past, I have transferred AMEX MR to AA via SPG. The usual ratio is 3:1 (MR:SPG), but they sometimes run offers (the last was in Q1 2005) of 2:1. From SPG, you can transfer to AA with a 25% bonus if you do it in increments of 20k. So, for example, you could transfer 60k MR to 20k SPG to 25k AA miles - not bad... but if you aren't in a hurry and can wait until the 2:1 promo is back, you can get many more SPG points for hte same number of MR points.

Hope this helps.

I just signed up for that Amex, and I just saw the 1:3 dilution of points into the program you are supposed to be able to turn into AA miles, but even following that link, I couldn't find anything that said that AA had anything to do with anything.

Are we all sure that AA is still in this program and hasn't recently withdrawn?

That converter isn't perfect. I recently heard of better ratio of converting Marriott Reward points into AA miles, (you just need a sh&tload of them to do it).

One way is to transfer them to your Starwood account if you have one. The exchange I believe is 1 *point for every 3 AmEx Reward points. Not very good, but then you can transfer them from your StarWood account to AA account. If you transfer 20k *points to your AA account, Starwood will kick in an additional 5k *points for a total of 25k AA miles. Good luck!

Converting Amex MR points into AAdvantage miles?

Is this possible? if so, what's the most efficient method?

I'm guessing AMEX MR -> Starwood Prefered Guest -> AAdvantage ...?

although, I don't know the conversion rate from MR to SPG --anyone know?

thanks

Converting Amex points to AA miles ?

Hello, all.

I have about 13000 Amex Membership Rewards points that I would like to convert to AA miles. Using the mileage converter on the Web Flyer web site, I see that a direct conversion costs me about 2/3 of the value; that is, my 13637 Amex points become 4329 AA miles.

Is there some indirect way that would not be so costly, such as converting to some other reward program and then to AA miles? I've looked at going through Starwood Preferred Guest and one or two others, and get about the same conversion ratio. But I thought some of you savvy people might know of a program with a better rate.

Thanks!

Celia

I haven't tried it, but apparently you can convert to Mexicana program and then use the Mexicana miles to fly on AA. However, it looks as though you don't have enough MR points to bother.

Why not apply for a new MR Amex and get some bonus points and then convert to, say, Delta, for a free ticket? Check this thread. http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=651963

Might be a good idea to read some of the already existing threads on this topic before starting a new one; e.g., http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=653386

In any event, always nice to hear from a (relatively) new Fter.
