Yup, that's exactly what you'll see for a direct flight. Incidentally, you'll also get miles for SNN-SFO, not SNN-BOS-SFO... it's about a 550-mile difference
If I were you, I would call AA back and ask to be placed on a different BOS-SFO flight... any flight other than flight 211. They should waive the change fee, since it was their schedule change that precipitated your desire to change flights. You may still experience the SNN-BOS downgrade issues that others have mentioned, but at least it won't be due to that direct flight. You'll also get those extra 550 miles.
After my last call to aa, it is showing different seats for the two "segments," so the EXP agent must have been able to do some magic. Unfortunately, as it stands now, there really aren't any other schedules that work much better. We'll see, I guess.
Well, now that is a different situation. If you're doing SNN-BOS-SFO with the same flight number, it's a direct flight. One of the requirements of a direct flight is that you have to sit in the same seat on all legs.
.
Not true. I frequently travel on AA66 DFW-LHR with a stop in London. They book me in B class and then covert to C class. I get a set in F going DFW-ORD and a J seat ORD-LHR. On AA.com it will only show the first sector seating. There are special Sabre entries that either the travel agent or AA makes to split seating.

We just did BOS-SNN and had no problems in either direction. There were, however, empty seats (at least on the way there), so I wonder if they tried to "sell" our seats. This does make me a little nervous about booking a similar trip.

Mike
so did you seat in the front on the cabin?

These tales of switches make me hesitant to book the nice sale fares that are back on for LAX-SNN. I am already going to DUB so I could go back there but I would also like to see SNN. So the decision is chance a Y middle seat on SNN-BOS or go emergency exit Y all the way on DUB-ORD and back.
Just an update on this because I know some of you have this same trip coming up.
I flew BOS-SNN-BOS this week. Sat up front both directions. I was suprised that there were empty seats up front out of Boston even though there were elites sitting in the back. Met some of them in the Admiral's Club in BOS and they didn't know they could have reserved those other seats. They were going to stop at the AA desk on their way out of the Shannon airport to see if they could move up front for their return.
Dinner service out of Boston was not too bad -- chicken or beef were the choices. There was a movie (or 2?). Breakfast was served at about 60 minutes before landing. It was a box of inedible junk food. Really awful.
Tip of the day: bring your own breakfast, even a bagel or fruit or something would be preferable to this box which consisted of wheat thins with peanut butter substitute and jelly, fig newtons, granola bar and box of raisins. Washed it down with lukewarm coffee or tea. Yuck. The real low point of the 6 hour flight.
Immigration was really easy, no wait at all.
On the return, I fortunately held on to my 4B seat. A couple of people noticed that upgrades were for sale but I don't know if anyone actually bought up or not. The cabin was full. 2 movies and a lunch box. Lunch box is better than the breakfast box. It included mini breadstix with dipping cheese, mini pringles, mini mars bite, and something else that I can't remember. All were European versions.
Aer Lingus lounge was unattended early in the morning. Just signed in the book at the desk. Only 2 other people in the lounge. Couldn't pull up the wifi connection, the signal was too weak. For me, it was too early for the Guinesses in the self-serve fridge so I just had soda and a couple of waters.
Most interesting part of the flight was watching this woman have a meltdown when the flight attendant blocked access to the forward lav with a cart so that the flight crew could come out and use the facilities. Woman went into a real snit when told to use the lav in the back. She was actually quoting that bit about only using the facilities in your ticketed cabin, LOL.
Hope you all enjoy your time in Ireland, however short it may be. If needed, there's a Great Southern hotel right there at the airport.

There's no hot meal served on the return? Or is this box in addition to lunch? The schedule lists it as lunch and snack. And I didn't think it was possible to be too early for Guiness! Thanks for the report.

Kinsale - Thanks for the encouraging news that I may be able to hold onto my seat in Row 2 next month. I'll take your advice about bringing some fruit on board for breakfast.

It's strange but I couldn't remember any hot meal on the return SNN to BOS. If I'm remembering correctly, there's only the box lunch and then pretzel sticks with the 2nd beverage run. It was still lunchtime when we cleared thru customs at BOS and transferred from terminal E back to B. Saw several other passengers eating at the Admirals Club so I'm pretty sure the snack box was it for the flight.
Hopefully, someone with a better memory than mine can correct me if it's the wrong info.

Am getting somewhat encouraged about being able to keep up-front seats for when I do this in a few weeks. Will remember the "Bring Your Own Food" suggestions
Trying to bring along as little as possible for this MR---any recollections on where the "better" views of the screens were for the movies on that 757??
(not that I'm a HUGE fan of AA's IFE, but am doing a turnaround MR, and am trying to avoid laptops, etc. )

Two screens up front -- one right at the front of the cabin between the galley and the first row of seats, and the 2nd one almost straight in front of Row 4. I was in 4B and watched the forward screen as the 2nd one was too close to watch comfortably without craning your neck.
