They greet you at the door and ask, "How many seats you would like tonight?" If you tip them well you could even get a seat with a view.

I had to take advantage of those great fares. The Mrs. and I will be going BOS to SNN in April. Alas, we have no status and will not be able to upgrade. SDG's words make it sound like we may do all right anyway. Now if we can just catch some sleep.

Seniority = hate the job, poor service. Wow, that certainly reinforces what IMO is an unfair stereotype! I have had EXCELLENT service from some very senior FAs, even recently - in fact, the second on the seniority list, and she is a fantastic person. And, less than stellar service from FAs of all ages, unfortunately... but they are people too, and other than the Dragon Lady on an ORD-BUF AE flight, no FA I've flown with in the last couple of years has been bad in the customer service department.

The seat devils are on the loose today

Just checked my Ireland flights and my 5A seat SNN-BOS has now become 23E (middle seat) in the last few days, putting me back in the middle of coach. Of course, no seats left up in the front cabin at this stage, but I was able to secure a window seat in the back that will work. Official reason is "equipment change", but it looks like the same 757 chart I've been looking at the last few weeks. Guess I'll just see what opens up at check-in on the way home.

Checked BOS-SNN and it's changed from 5A to 2F. I can live with that for the overnight flight.

my seat was changed from 3E to 29D today. unfortunately, the *flight* was today, and i found out about this at the counter.

they had 18D available, so it wasn't a terrible flight, but what a rotten start to the day......

my aa.com itinerary screen still shows 3E, so this happened after the airport took over.

even after that annoyance, tho, i found the SNN-BOS flight a great way to get home -- preclearance + carryon = easy arrival! (and i like the short flight, too -- if it hadn't been for the holding pattern at BOS, we would have made it in under six hours....)

Speaking of LAX, BOS, and SNN together, why in the world won't aa.com show me the most reasonable connection LAX-BOS BOS-SNN? For every date I've tried it, it claims that it can only connect me through a non-direct LAX-BOS flight, OR an OVERNIGHT flight LAX-BOS that leaves the previous day! There's a daily LAX-BOS nonstop that arrives some 4 or 5 hours before the BOS-SNN flight departs, which is certainly better in my book than arriving 14 hours too early (!), but I can't get aa.com to show it to me (for LAX-SNN) unless I book it as a Multiple Cities trip LAX-BOS, BOS-SNN, SNN-LAX. (And it does price the same as the more ridiculous schedules that looking up LAX-SNN roundtrip gives me, so it can't be a pricing issue.)

I have no such problem with LAX-SNN-LAX showing me a SNN-BOS connecting to a nonstop BOS-LAX on the return, tho.

I have encountered the same thing for all the LAX-SNN flights I booked (3) - thought of calling web support, but took the extra legs for more miles! I think aa.com has **many** such inconsistencies/problems on international itin's - flights appear only under all carriers, or not at all, even though they are in the timetable, etc.

AA is at it again

Looks like more SNN-SFO direct flights have inflitrated the schedule -- my late November flights got hit with it today, landing me in the back of the bus.

Agent #1: Thought she had put be back up front, but instead the reservation deteriorated further, with my BOS-SFO upgrade request revoked.

Agent #2: Simply couldn't understand the problem -- I spent a while explaining that SNN-SFO isn't a nonstop flight before thanking her and hanging up.

Agent #3: Helpful! Understood the issue after a bit of explanation, and changed my domestic routing so that I wasn't on the BOS-SFO flight anymore.

So, the old FT maxim holds -- hang up and try again...

I did the LAX-MCO-BOS-SNN and SNN-BOS-MIA-LAX return last week, with one night in Shannon. I had a similar problems with the domestic upgrades on the outbound as the MCO-BOS-SNN are the same flight number (#212). Before the 100-hour window, the EXP Agent could not do anything to split the MCO-BOS and BOS-SNN segments. Once past the 100-hour window, the LAX-MCO flight showed A4 X0 and the MCO-BOS flight showed A7 X7. AA.com would not allow me to request and upgrade for the MCO-BOS segment as the BOS-MCO segment had not upgradeable seates

Knowing that the MCO-BOS segment was showing X7 I called the EXP Desk and the agent said they couldn't spit the flight so I was out of luck. I thanked her, hung up and called again. On the second call the EXP Agent was again able to see the X7 on the MCO-BOS segment and this time, after about 5 minutes on hold, was able to split up the segments and upgrade the MCO-BOS segment. It might have been that since the MCO-BOS segment was upgradeable that the EXP Agent was able to split the direct flight into two segments. I also received miles for both the MCO- BOS and BOS-SNN segments instead of the MCO-SNN direct miles.

I had requested the upgrade for the LAX-MCO segment and that cleared at 4 AM the morning of the flight.

The BOS-SNN flight was full. Good crew both ways as I had the same crew on both flights. The Boston crew from BOS-SNN does the return the next day on the SNN-BOS. To Shannon was a choice of chicken or pasta for dinner and the silver box for breakfast. They didn't make everyone pull their shades down for the flight so I was able to see a nice sunrise on our approach to Shannon.

On the return at check-in, they were selling the seats in row 1-6 for $150 euros. Seems alot for a larger seat as we all received the same coach service. The flight left with 8 empty seats in rows 1-6, and the rest of coach was full, even the exit rows. I did like have the seat next to me empty. The flight from BOS was 3 hours late arriving and that resulted in the BOS-SNN flight leaving 2 hours late. Didn't arrive until 2:15 PM instead of 12:35 PM, so I missed my BOS-MIA flight and ended on the BOS-LAX flight.

I am almost too embarrassed to ask, but:

Does this First class seat, coach class service situation apply to any other route than BOS-SNN?

Do you have to be EXP to get the seats if F or would my PLT status suffice?

Also, is this the same F cabin I would have on DFW-LAS for example or is it more in line with international F class?

cheers

Also applies on BOS-MAN, ORD-DUB, ORD-GLA and (I think) the new NCL-JFK services.

Any status will give you access so your PLAT is fine.

The seats are as domestic 757 F but with coach service.

With the reduction of AA services ex BOS thanks to B6 the FA's are just happy to still have a job from their homebase.

Actually, all ORD-Europe routes are 767 and 777 (757s couldn't go that far). So it's only BOS- and JFK- services that have the 757s.

I wouldn't say that the 757 don't go that far out of ORD but the BOS-SNN market they are serving probably doesn't support alot of paying business class passengers. I think AA is now rethinking of supporting leisure routes (internationally) with 757s since they can't afford a larger plane with more crew, and assume cargo revenue isn't substantial. Only a guess but again the fares they can charge internationally might be more profitable than BOS-MIA going against the discount carriers.
