Interestingly I had the opposite reaction. I flew on N803NN last Thursday SEA-DFW and saw N908NN Tuesday in DFW heading out to LAX.
I thought it wasn't as ugly in person as on video.
Although that's not much of a compliment...

Saw the new livery up close for the first time yesterday at DFW.
OK, I'm officially converted from "why change?" to "it's pretty cool."

I was on the AA50 yesterday. My first "up-close" view was from the AC at DFW and it looked super. Then again, I already liked the livery!

Apologies if this has already been answered but...will any of the 767-200s receive the livery? I think it would look striking on one of them.

ATL
In ATL, the gate monitors have been updated with new promos for the new American, but everything else is still the old AA (check-in, gate signage, equipment, aircraft, etc.).
Can't wait until they send one of the newly-painted birds!

Although I suppose the 763s will get the paint job as they will be around for a while. I couldn't tell the difference at a glance between a 762 and a 763 anyway.

Quite an improvement in my opinion. Putting the old/new side by side, the old really looks dated.

I kid of course. I think it looks great on the lawn darts, but the heavies need a cheat line or something... is it just me, or does the new livery make the 77W look like a huge suppository?
I like the new logo, the tail stands out (if that was the goal... it definitely will draw out the 'Meruca crowd), and the paint is a good solution to cover the composite fuselages.
Just give us a cheat line! Even if it was a slightly darker shade of silver!
(I also love FT... and the fact that "I don't care" is the minority opinion by far)

Wirelessly posted (Apple iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10B146 Safari/8536.25)
I still think the tail is rather ugly. But I like the new fuselage color scheme, and the new logo is growing on me.

The Airline Reporter posted photos and a video clip of a 763 in the new colors. Here it is:

I find it even more ugly, looks like a cross between a military and postal service paint job, dull and dry with a loud tail. I wonder what American's target market was when they though up this terrible eyesore.
I think at this point many are brain washing themselves to liking it...

Finally saw one "live," at JFK a few minutes ago (on some widebody); it's not bad (which I'd thought it might be from the pictures online), but it's pretty much lacking in goodness. If their goal was to blend in rather than stand out, they've succeeded; the overall paint, at least on a grey day in NYC threatening snow -- is a rather drab color.
