Kiosk sells Admirals Club access at airport w/o club location
I was checking in at LAS and noticed that the kiosk offered to sell me a club pass for $50. One problem, there isn't an admirals club at LAS. I asked an AAgent how that's the case. He said, "well, you could always use it when you land." I asked how often there were confused or disappointed customers. He said, while shaking his head, "Very often".

This is terrible and very misleading. Travelers, particularly those who don't have access to the ACs through other means (Amex Plat, AC membership, etc) should certainly not be expected to know the locations of clubs. Also, with the closures of several clubs over the past few years, I could hardly blame someone for purchasing an AC pass at IAD/SJC/MCI/etc for not being advised of the club's closure.
I wonder whether you could ask Customer Service for a refund in these instances

Besides being a gambling destination, LAS has lots of trade shows (= business travelers), I've always wondered why they don't have a lounge there.
My Mother came to visit me in the US not long ago. When I was helping check her in at a kiosk (back to LHR) it was offering to sell her AC access for $50 - she was travelling in F!!!

The program is written to follow certain steps. They have never separated functionality by station probably. And they know they can sell them to people that don't know better.
Saw this in SLC a little while ago. At first I was confused, but I was flying to ORD so I figured it was offered because of the AC there. If I wasn't well aware of where the ACs are located though and I bought a pass I think I would be very disappointed to find out that there isn't one at my departure airport.

If AA had an ounce of smarts, they would include a disclaimer ("there may be no lounge at the airport where you are being offered this pass; you may have access by virtue of other factors") or the like.
In the meantime, I would highly recommend anyone stung this way write AA and request their money back - or threaten to dispute the credit card charge - and copy the USDOT.
