2012 Upgrade Success Percentage

As in previous years, I thought we would have a poll to report sticker/EXP upgrade success rates. It's not perfect, but it's the best we can do with this software.

Please note the arbitrary limitation to requested sticker/EXP upgrades - please omit stats from Eagle segments, SWUs, long-haul international segments, etc. from your calculations. Also, based on last year's results, note that the GLD ranges have been decreased a bit.

Enjoy!

For previous years, see:

2011 Upgrade Success Percentage (consolidated)
2010: Upgrade Success Percentage (consolidated)
2009 Upgrade / UPG Success Rates

Personally, as a PLT, I did more longhaul travel this year and, as a result, used more AAward Upgrades (12/12), so for my sticker segments, I was 4/6 = 67%.

I missed only one upgrade (2 weeks ago SFO-DFW). Not counting AE or Intl segments: 99.05%

In 2011, I missed just one domestic upgrade, and was 10 for 10 on SWUs.

I missed one out of 39 domestic upgrade requests, so 97.4% clearance rate. The only one I missed was SFO-JFK just before Christmas, and first class was sold out at least a week ahead on that one.

Actually did better than 2011 where I cleared 89% (25 of 28).

Still at 100% with systemwides and those numbers aren't included above. I did two paid Europe trips first half of the year (Madrid and Dublin). Had to curtail flights after the Olympics due to some family matters or would have done some more Europe travel year end.

Surprisingly, it was 100% for me. I had one u/g that I did not think would clear (JFK-SFO on a Monday morning), and despite being #3 on the list when I checked-in, the GA paged me for the upgrade about five minutes before boarding.

All of my SWUs have cleared without issue.

100% for me also since becoming EXP. And I'm 1/1 for 2013 so far so hopefully the trend will continue.

AA EXP
26/26 segment Complimentary Domestic only itinerary upgrades
9/9 SWU upgraded INTL flights (each included at least 1 domestic segment not in the above 26 count total. 1 SWU expired Feb '12, remainder were Feb '13)

Decent year.

My upgrade rate was terrible this past year, below %50. I'm not sure why. I got upgraded on PDX-DFW-MIA routes, not even all the time there. I flew SFO-JFK, JFK-LAX, SFO-ORD, and similar popular routes with EXP's and i never got upgraded on any of those. I requested upgrades. I did get one at the gate last minute MIA-LAX upgrade which was nice. In previous years i got upgraded almost %100 of the time, so at least for me, the value of being EXP's dropped a LOT.

100% excluding AE flights. We'll see what 2013 brings.
