LAX-MIA full in biz and first 12/3 and 12/4 - anyone know why?
Hi;
I had thought that this would be a relatively slower spot in the holiday travel, but the LAX-MIA flights (other than redeyes) are pretty much sold out in C and F on both 12/3 and 12/4.
Could Art Basel (starting 12/6) be the reason? Seems like 12/3 is a little soon for that reason.
I know to avoid Oscar week, Emmy week (if in LA), Sunday games between the Heat and the Lakers, but this is a new one on me.

Knowing what it is might help me for next year.
Thanks in advance.
I have no clue who an Art Basel is. Does he play for the Lakers?
Tuesday and Wednesday sellout is a bit interesting.

Your title "LAX-SFO full in biz and first 12/3 and 12/4 - anyone know why?" needs work since LAX-SFO and SFO-LAX are each showing F7 on all flights both ways on 12/3 and 12/4.
As to LAX-MIA on 12/3 and 12/4, inventory is zeroed out or nearly so from 12/2 in both directions so it may also be related to something going on in LA as well, or just a bunch of paid premium traffic between these markets and beyond.
Why does the title of this thread say "SFO"? Was it supposed to be "MIA" or were you trying to say that both SFO and LAX flights to/from MIA are sold out?
Thinking it's a MIA thing; there are a few days around there where the majority of JFK/LGA flights to MIA are sold out up front, while JFK-LAX looks about normal (some sold out, some wide open). I think Art Basel is a good guess, since a fair amount of interest would come from both LA and NY.
There is also virtually no availability in J on CDG-MIA or MAD-MIA between the 2nd and 6th. If you look at CDG-JFK/ORD/DFW or MAD-DFW you'll see many more J seats for sale, and if you look at MIA the following week it's also wide open. This also suggests it's art-related, as these are two of Europe's art capitals.
Yes this is clearly Basel. All the dealers and actual buyers of art go before the fair opens early in the week (so sunday to Wednesday) to setup and sell the art before the fair opens to the public.
How many flights per day does AA operate and what type of equipment?

Except that things are basically zeroed in the MIA-LAX direction on 12/2 and 12/3 also.

Sorry for the typo (or "thinko"), I was also booking travel to SFO, it should say LAX-MIA. Can I change the title or do I need to ask a moderator?

Not even close. There are only three flights between the two days completely zeroed out, most flights have one or two seats and six flights on the 2nd and two on the 3rd have a combined F/J total of at least 5 available.
Also, as has been stated, many dealers and customers come in early to sell/buy before the official start of the show and if they're already in this weekend some of the customers may be on their way home already.

FWIW, I'm on the first 777 of the day MIA-LAX on 12/2 and was shocked at how full in J it was, even before the UG window hit. I did get the upgrade, but it seemed odd to have a early Sunday morning flight so packed in premium cabins.

The same things happens around the Miami Intl. Boat Show (Feb 14-18 for those who like to plan ahead) - plenty of buyers and dealers who pay for F and J.
The college football national championship game is on Jan.7; the heaviest impact date (in all cabins) will be leaving MIA on the 8th (since no one sticks around once the game has been played).
