Tokyo to Chicago 1st class: JAL (777-300) vs. AA (777-200)- any major differences?

Hey

Flying from Tokyo to chicago in June. I know JAL has a great 1st class product on the 777-300, but how does it compare to the AA flight on a 777-200?

This would be the first time ever I'm flying first class! Timing wise I prefer the AA flight because it leaves at 6pm (as opposed to the JAL which leaves at 11am).

Thanks

Manish

Also, bear in mind that by June, JAL might just have its wholly revamped F product (SS7) on this route.

If the experience is important to you, go JAL. There is literally no comparison. Great service. Great food. Flight attendants that understand what service in a first class cabin should be.

Don't fly JL.
Since it will be your first time in F you will not notice how far inferior AA is (in every aspect, seat, food, service).
You never want to fly AA F again after you tried JL, which sometimes limits your choices.

After flying JL F you will be in 7th heaven.

AA cannot compare in anyway

Was recently stuck with AA JFK-HND in J and F. Having flown both airlines and being an extremely low maintenance pax, there was no comparison at all. Fly a real airline - JL !

Enjoy

At the risk of beating a dead horse, JL.

AA hasn't been able to deliver a competitive international F class product for years; I suspect most of its seats are actually filled with pax flying on corporate discounts/upgrades; frequent flyers; etc.

One thing to note through reading many trip reports on JL in F-class is a common theme: the FA's English skills seem to not be that great, and they may abbreviate the service with English-speaking customers. Not a big deal as the hard product is pretty solid.

Never been a problem for me. They definitely provide full service.

well OK then!

amazing there is such a big difference judging from your all responses, but when you go to seat guru and try and compare there seems to be little difference. I'm so glad I asked!

So now... coming from someone who has always been an economy flyer, wanting to fly first class once for the experience, is it worth paying nearly double the miles to go from economy to first class on this JAL flight?

If this is your first time, and you have the miles to spare, then I say definitely yes

But beware, we all say "only this once." And then after that we're hooked

I have flown over 25 JL F sectors and this has never ever been a problem.

Go JL all the way. There is simply no way to compare them.

I'd make sure that you're going to fly the revamped F in JL for double the miles, but it's all up to you.
