Route from IAH to India on AA

I normally travel from Houston IAH to Newark EWR to Delhi DEL when I go to India. I have about 300k AA miles. When I try to create a similar reward itinerary on AA, it either takes me to MIA to Europe, or LHR to another stop in Europe HEL before taking me to India (Delhi, Bombay, Hyderabad etc).

Is there any way to create an itinerary on AA with only one stop (like on United, Emirates, Qatar etc?). Thank you

To the best of my memory, I'd think you could do IAH/LHR/DEL on BA as a solution. Not AA, but still OW alliance.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry: BlackBerry8530/5.0.0.1030 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/417)

If there is award space, then IAH-LHR on BA, and LHR-India on either BA or 9W may be possible. You would have to call AA, however, to check award availability on 9W.

Once QR becomes an AA partner (upon QR's entry into oneworld, or possibly earlier), then IAH-DOH-India would be another possibility.

This route does not come up as an option when I see this online.

Do I have to call AA for this? Thanks

looks like Qatar airways is already in OW alliance http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/09/bu...orld.html?_r=0

it does not show up as an option on AA.com though. Best to call the AA service desk?

Well, AA no longer operates flights to India and their major partners are based in Europe, so yes. United operates a EWR-DEL flight, which of course helps finding a one stop from the US to DEL.

That presumably means there's no availability on BA. (BA award flights can be booked on aa.com if available.) Have you tried a variety of dates to see if you can at least get that routing to appear? If there's availability on BA IAH-LHR and 9W LHR-DEL, you'll have to call; 9W award flights can't be booked on AA.com.

No, the article says "American Airlines and British Airways said Monday that Qatar Airways would join their Oneworld alliance" (emphasis added). I would think oneworld.com would be an obvious place to see if Qatar is in the alliance; you will quickly find that it isn't. The press release on the front page of oneworld.com, dated October 2012, says "The Doha-based airline's implementation into oneworld is expected to take between 12 and 18 months."

You could check the AAdvantage partners list on AA's web site; you won't find Qatar there.

You can also go with EY via AUH. Need to call for this one as well, though.

You are right. I can't see Qatar Airways on AA website

I can find one-stop reward itineraries through LHR, but the availability seems limited to certain days.

On a few dates that I am able to see IAH-LHR-DEL itinerary (typically mid-week in summer 2013), it charges me 90k AA miles plus $727.23 in fees. Fee seems high as typically on United I pay less than $100.00 for each reward ticket.

Is this an artifact of flying through LHR? Or will other routes will also charge the same? I will keep investigating this. Thanks

It is an artifact of flying BA (fuel surcharge). Many posts about this. As suggested above, try Etihad (need to call). They are not in OW but do have AAdvantage award seats,.

Your first time booking an award, right? To use AAdvantage miles you have to call AA, since they are holding your miles. Same principle as going to aa.com to book BA awards using AA miles.

Actually there is a way to check inventory on the net. You have to join EY's FF program and then you can check for award availability even though you don't have any EY miles. If the lowest-mileage awards (OpenSeat? GuestSeat? I have forgotten which one is lower) are not available on EY's award booking page on a given date, awards are not going to be available for booking through Aadvantage.

TAKE CX TO HONG KONG FROM LAX, SFO, ORD- you have choice- on one award then a separate award from hkg-del. its 2 separate awards but the total miles are not much different, you can also do AA to han or nrt and then a jl award to delhi.
