AA and Pilots reach tentative deal 09 Nov 2012 - ratified 74% 7 Dec 2012
From the WFAA FB page:
BREAKING: American Airlines and the Allied Pilots Association have reached an "agreement in principal" on a new labor contract, News 8's Jason Whitely reports. The proposal now goes to all 10,000 pilots for ratification. More information to come.
If I'm not mistaken, the APA is the last union AA had to deal with. Question, if this is approved by the pilots will this help AA avoid merging with US Airways?

Not really. The merger will happen if the unsecured creditors want it to happen.
You're correct that it is the final contract that's still open.
Today, American reached an agreement-in-principle with the Allied Pilots Association (APA). We expect more information to be shared in the upcoming weeks.
We are pleased to have reached an agreement-in-principle with the Allied Pilots Association. We worked hard with the APA’s negotiating committee to structure an agreement that addresses the priorities identified as most important to our pilots, while staying within the economic framework supported by the Unsecured Creditors’ Committee to ensure American’s successful restructuring. As the APA communicated, the APA Board of Directors will proceed in compliance with policy-manual requirements and vote to send the agreement-in-principle to the membership as a tentative agreement for a ratification vote.
last time, union vote defeated the agreement reached... so not quite excited yet.. and hopefully if this goes thru, it means NO MERGER with US Air..
The union could still advocate a merger despite the agreement, AA management and the CC could support a merger or US could wait until AA's period of exclusivity expires and make an offer.

Would imagine, that a post-chap 11 AA with a cleaned up balance sheet, is less dependent on a merger, or at least more in the driver's seat in negotiating.
1) Has APA indicated whether they are going to recommend this agreement be approved, or is this simply another opportunity for more thousands of delayed and cancelled flights because of another upcoming job action?
2) Has the date for the membership vote been scheduled yet?

My guess is if they proposed it that they would support the approval.

The union’s board must still sign off on the deal and present it to pilots for a ratification vote. That could happen as soon as three weeks from now.
<snip>
In a message to its members Friday, the union said its board would vote on whether to pass the agreement to the membership for ratification. That is likely to happen since the board has already shown support for the latest proposal by voting 13-to-2 on a related matter.
The board’s next vote could happen within a week. The members then get two weeks to review the contract language before voting.
We also hear that electronic voting will begin Nov. 23 and end Dec. 7, with votes counted the same day.
I have no prior experience in observing these matters. It sounds like many of you are quite wise to the game. Does this mean we could know something by as early as November 23, or that December 7 is the earliest we'd hear something? Or, I guess I should say, based on this news, what's the earliest we might know something?
