Missed flight after stopover on award

I booked award DME-ORD stopover ORD-HNL. Flew first part, then forgot about second part (ORD-HNL)! Now, few days later, I want to change it for later in the year. Also, I noticed that schedule changed on ORD-HNL by few hours! Can I call AA and change it now? Can I change it to another city? Can I call in few weeks when I know better whats happening? Thanks!

If the original time of the skipped leg has passed, then it is cancelled and has no value. If it has not passed, you can make a change. I know that this is the case for paid tickets, and I believe that it applies for awards as well.

Cheers.

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone forget to go to HNL.

As brp said, you're probably out of luck.

Its not that I forgot to go, I forgot to change. Anyone has experience with changing missed flight? I did it few times on UA.

It's unlikely you'll be able to make the change online, or even bring up your reservation if it's been a few days.

You may have to make the Call of Shame. It's probably not going to go well. You never know though...

When was ticket issued it seems to me AA hasn't flown DME ORD for quie some time now if it is over a year you are certainly out of luck otherwise use the old " if the agent won't help call back theory"

And don't forget, if this was a r/t itn, then your return has been canceled too!

Thanks! Does it help if the schedule changed for a few hours for this flight?

While most deep discount paid tickets have a notation of "NO VALUE IF NOT CANCEL BY DEPARTURE," I don't often see this on award tickets.

brp is probably right, but just in case, I would call AA and ask about rescheduling the flight for another day, and see if the agent will allow it.

Yes, but usually only if you call before the flight.

Was the schedule change three hours earlier or three hours later? If earlier and you were not notified, presumably you would have missed the flight or not been able to get to the airport for it when you learned of the change, perhaps when checking for delays just before leaving for the airport. I think the schedule change could make a difference here, but you might have to escalate to a supervisor and have an explanation for not calling closer to the time of the flight.

Presumably you weren't smart enough to use an internet source to confirm a change without someone holding your hand.

I'm sure there are a number of other "excuses" one could use but why not be truthful and take responsibility for your error?

+1 - Why people lie about simple mistakes is beyond me. If the CSR is going to make an exception, they are going to make an exception. Much more likely to happen when you say, "sorry - I screwed up, can you help me?"
