I responded early may 1 to an "earning your business" email sent on 4/30. Still nothing, but I was contacted on th following weekend because I had forgotten to include my phone number and aadvantage number with my 1k card picture. Hopefully will get It soon.

Well, I haven't read the entire thread by any means, but here's what seems to be a new data point/variation on the theme. My 1K wife applied on 4/30 and got an email a few days ago from AA, informing her that she didn't qualify for Exec Platinum but that she could apply for he Platinum challenge. Ok, too bad, but we figured she applied too late, or perhaps was turned down because her UA name was slightly different from her AA name, or whatever.
Lo and behold, today she gets a new email congratulating her on making EXP and offering her the 30K challenge for the 8 SWUs. And just to be clear, we hadn't sent any follow-up emails when she was turned down. The only possible difference between her situation and many others is that I'd also applied to AA on her behalf (on 4/29, actually, with the same documentation of her UA account statement screen shot), saying that as an EXP I'd appreciate her getting the EXP status match. That is, I'd applied on her behalf and the next day she'd applied on her own. So maybe that's a differentiating factor, but quite possibly it's just coincidence.
Now, we don't know if she'll fly enough to get the SWUs or retain EXP for next year, just as we don't know if she would have flown enough to remain a UA 1K in years to come. But AA has now converted her to focus most of her travel on AA, even if she drops to Plat via the soft landing.
A strange road to get her to switch. But well done, AA, nonetheless. Glad that her travel will accrue AA miles rather than the ever-deteriorating UA miles on ever-deteriorating UA.

On Monday, 4/30 I replied to the same e-mail I had received on 4/27, this time for Mrs. Danville 1k. This e-mail simply stated Send Documentation.
Her status match to EXP came through some time last night. Thus far no eVIPs have shown up in her account, nor have we received any e-mails welcoming her to AA. So for the moment not sure where stands regarding eVIPs.

yup, it's now day 16 and i haven't gotten matched yet. i need to book flights. this is getting frustrating.
I hear ya. I submitted my wife's and my credential in the same email on the same page on 4/30 at 9am. I was matched last week (Tuesday night?) but to date, she has not. Really odd. I faxed her info again just now.
Another datapoint. I faxed in a copy of my 1K card on 4/30 without calling and received the email from AA today with the upgraded status and the 30k miles for 8 SWU offer.
The nice part is AA does soft landings so if you fail to earn EXP, you can at least be downgraded to Platinum and work on EXP next year with a full head of steam and some status to boot. Without the match, you wouldn't have any status at all to start with.
So by matching to explat, I will have explat status until Feb '13, plat until '14 and gold until '15 (assuming I don't requalify).
Sounds like a pretty good deal for someone who's getting out of a travel-heavy job

I spoke with a very nice AAdvantage Customer Service Rep and she gave me a little bit more information on the timing for myself.
I faxed my request in on 4/30 before noon. According to her system. The request was scanned/assigned to my account on 5/2 and from the information she can see regarding the status match. She is now counting 10 "business days" from the day after the request was put into their system / my account was flagged. So there could be an overnight batch process to identify AAdvantage Members requesting the status match.
With the strong response they had they are trying to strech out the timeline to match to as long as possible.
So the big note is for people that faxed in their request it could take +3 days to match based on my data point of submitting in the thick of things.

Good to know.
Status on AA did help me today.
I was stuck in 28B on my AS flight, and the EXP desk was quickly able to get my seat reassigned to 'Preferred Seating'. In my case, exit row aisle. Nice.
Just had my first issue with a reservation I made via AA on a partner airline, CX. Schedule change on CX automatically protected on a different HKG-JFK flight due to the first leg schedule change on the PEK-HKG leg. This was a mileage reservation in F on CX. I called AA EXP desk to see if I can get back on my HKG-JFK flight as the other flight does not work for me yet there are tons of PEK-HKG flights that I would have been able to take to still make the original HKG-JFK leg. I know that AA doesn't have control of CX inventory and I did check to see before calling that there was no longer any F availability on my original CX flight but the answer that I got from AA was a "sorry, all we can do is refund your miles if you're not happy". Really? What happened to all those stories of great AA EXP agents that can call other airlines on your behalf and work with you, etc? So far not impressed.
Now, if I could only figure out why I haven't gotten any SWUs, since I replied 26 April to the "Send UA Documentation" email and was just given EXP this morning - without SWUs.
Update: Checked my account this morning to be sure that some of my DEQM flites had posted and LOW AND BEHOLD, there were 8 SWUs there which expire in 2013.

The mantra with AA is that if you don't like the answer that you get call back again.
Remember partner awards are a little bit more difficult to deal with because they do have to contact the operating carrier.
