Double checking on definitions EQM/EQP
Hi. I was status matched to EXP with a 30k challenge to get SWUs by aug 30. The language in the email from AA was I needed 30K EQMs or EQPs. Some flights I am looking at are in fare classes N and Q if I book these they earn 1 EQM and 0.5 EQP per mile. Is there a downside to this if I go for EQMs?

I felt great! UA just lost $32,000 for trying to make me pay $237 for something I believe I EARNED. THIS is NOT the last of the $$$ that UA will loose.
Do send a copy of the cancelled trips and rebooked AA flights to United WHQ: they need to see the response to disappointed customers.
So I booked a AA MR within my trip to ORD. At 100 hours both legs of my AA trip confirmed into F. My outbound UA to ORD at 96 and 72 have not. Looked at fare buckets and shows F7, R7 and RN7. So every seat left in F UA is willing to sell, take points or instruments to upgrade but not given me my earned CPU after flying in excess of 2.8 m you know what in seat miles. Just called UA and the agent said this is the way UA does it. You just have to wait. Another reason I feel so good about spending money on AA to have options.
First of all why are you 3mm on AA an 2.8mm on UA? It doesn't sound as though you "switched" since you were always on AA rather you are flying less UA.

Up until a few months ago, lifetime miles on AA could come from any source (flight bonuses, credit cards, for instance) and were not limited to just flight miles.

I wonder if AA will allow me to do a challenge or something to retain EXP through 2014 with eVIPs. I am EXP through 2013 but I wonder if I show my 1K card they will offer me something. (ive flown around 40K AA already) it's worth a try... Right?

Nope. The EQP approach is there in case you happen to have booked higher fare tix, to give you a bit of a boost in your chase for a mileage goal. If you happen to fly a mix of high fare and discount ones, the AA approach puts you at a disadvantage WRT UA in the general status race, but if you have a path to the 30k mapped out one way or another you will get your eVIPs either way. For me, with a Y trip early in the month, and a biz class trip in June, the EQP path is how I will end up reaching 30k first. YMMV, literally

While I wonder whether they may do something like this, I am not expecting it. I think I will make the challenge for the 30k SWUs quite easily now that I'm off to London on the ridiculous fares from last week, and have concluded that with overseas travel making up the bulk of my mileage anyway, PLAT with SWUs is a more than acceptable way to travel for one year. I can't see it being much worse than what I would have with UA as a 1K, since my over-entitled a$$ is being told I shouldn't expect upgrades anyway

I think I'll send an email explaining the situation. I had switched to UA only last year. I'd like to be able to retain EXP w/ SWUs through 2014 and not have to fly the full 100K

Now I'm confused.
1. I am matched to EXP until 2013.
2. Fly 30k miles to get 8 eVips expiring in 2014. I will get those since 25K is already booked.
What is my status for 2013
3. What happens if I fly 100k this year?
Do I get 8 more eVips. I'm thinking not.
Your status for 2013 will be PLAT and if you hit 100k this year you may receive an additional 8 SWUs. This has happened in the past but it is not guaranteed.

A decade ago I also cheated on UA with my AA mistress. Glad she gave me a way back.
I've been flying AA exclusively since February and I am very happy with my choice. In fact, sometimes I wonder why I didn't make the change under the PMUA days, but it's definitely an upgrade under the current COdbaUA regime.
Today I used the showers at the DFW AC -- rain shower, body sprays, and hand-held. It was one of the best showers I've had in a long time.
The food in the AC is good, and it's nice to be able to eat in the AC instead of picking up crap in the terminal and eating it there (because you can't bring food/drink in the RCC).
Wifi makes the planes fly faster.
I really hope AA continues their segmented approach to creating value for its customers (much like what PMUA did) because it's a much, much better experience than CO.

My experience so far has been similar. One thing that AA is doing better, which may seem a bit counterintuitive, is that they're pretty much operating with just three elite levels, while UA has something like six.
Even before the CO takeover, GS had been evolving into full tier-status above 1K, unlike CK, whose benefits are not so in-your-face for the rest of us. Now CO has inserted the Platinum level as well as two tiers of credit cards that necessitate things like an additional boarding group.
If the CO group was trying to deliberately increase the complexity of the elite hierarchy in order to "prove" that differentiated elite benefits are unworkable, then they're doing a nice job so far. Hopefully AA will not try to emulate any of their "enhancements".

American Airlines doing free UA elite status matches [on 4/27 ltd. to 1K/GS].
Emailed May 4, received match today. 1K-> EXP but need to do 30k for eVIPs. Not sure if that really matters as I doubt I will do much flying on AA. Do OW partner miles count towards 30k? If not I may be SOL.
