Think of all the airline miles they're giving away to the PAXs.

I was just at JFK this morning and saw this aircraft come into gate 12! I had been looking at the Departures monitor and saw a flight to STT appear....rather odd, since the typical JFK-STT flight leaves earlier in the morning.
They did an equipment swap. The flight departed out of gate 8 on a different aircraft, same flight number (ignore what the linked article says), boarding as I departed around 1330EDT.
I wandered down to the gate area, and the pax seemed to be taking it in stride. Kudos to the pilots for the safe landing!

Also, for those interested, last night's AA 955 JFK-EZE did not go because of OTS (equipment out of service). It was delayed until this morning, exactly 12 hours and 10 minutes from original departure time. In these situations, I believe the catering is reversed, so the pax get the breakfast first, then the Lunch/Dinner meal a couple of hours before landing.
AA 955 has an ETA of 2132 EZE time, and tonight's return flight (AA 956) has a delay until 2215 EZE time. Hm...not gonna happen! Turning around a 772 in less than 70-90 minutes would be next to impossible even on a domestic run, and IMHO completely impossible on international flights where additional security/Customs inspections are required, and the catering and cleaning are more elaborate. (Usually the bird sits on the ground at EZE for 12 hours during the day, with plenty of time for these checks!)
