AA Introduces AAirwaves Live Cockpit Radio to Select Aircraft
FORT WORTH, Texas, Apr. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines is proud to introduce AAirwaves Live Cockpit to select aircraft in its fleet of jets. Available immediately, customers will be able to listen in on live cockpit communications between the pilots of the plane and all air traffic control services.
"AAirwaves is an exciting new product developed after exhaustive research through customer feedback and focus groups." stated Alissa Aaronson - Vice President of In-Flight Services. "As a leader in onboard entertainment with Gogo Wireless Internet, hit first run movies and the latest reruns from NBC Universal, we feel AAirwaves will futher differentiate American Airlines from the competition." There will be no charge for AAirWaves and customers are free to use their own headsets. American Airlines' professional flight attendants, who's primary purpose is to ensure your safety, will provide headsets for purchase at a nominal charge to main cabin passengers.
According to Barry Abranhoff - Senior Project Manager for AAirwaves Development, "To further bond customers with the miracle of human flight and provide something special in the air, AAirWaves will allow everyone to live the exciting life of an American Airlines pilots as they fly in and out of our cornerstone markets. I, for one, look forward to knowing we are number sixty four in line for takeoff at JFK, the challenging backtaxi to the opposite end of the runway because of a wind shift at ORD, the ground stop at LAX to allow Oprah Winfrey's private jet to land, or the call to LSG Sky Chefs when a family of armadillos didn't quite beat one of our 777 LuxuryLiners across the runway at DFW."
Initial rollout has already been completed across one-third of the American Airlines fleet. Charles Xavier - Director of Equipment Procurement produly states that all Super 80 aircraft have been equipped with the proper IFE modules, "Our mechanics did not believe this to be possible. Management, however, pushed ahead and all the equipment has been installed in the cockpits of our modern fleet of Boeing Super 80 Whisperjets. The best part of the deal according to our analysts is that significant cost saving were gained by leveraging existing IFE equipment in the cabin area. As a responsibility to our sharesholders, we must keep costs down in these challenging times."
American Airlines hopes to expand AAirwaves across its entire fleet of aircraft should customer feedback warrant expanded rollout. Janice Lulkin - Customer Relations Manager will be tasked with compiling the data. "At the conclusion of each flight, the system will automatically play a prerecorded message," states Lulkin, "A world wide web internet hypertext link will be provided to solicit feedback. Our mainframes will then process the data and automatically decide whether the program should be extended to the rest of the fleet. No additional effort is required of our flight attendants and no announcement will be made to push the survey."
While AAirwaves is only available on American's Super 80 fleet, Quentin Farnsworth - Director of In-Flight Entertainment Content adds, "We would like to remind our customers that extensive onboard options are available across the entire American Airlines and American Eagle fleet. Television monitors aboard our Boeing 737, 757, and 767 fleet provide all customer with complimntary entertainment. Windows on the sidewalls of our American Eagle regional jets provide a birds eye view of exciting cities such as Akron, OH, Albany, NY, and Provo, UT to name a few."

I'm suspicious of everything with today's date (and it's almost 10 in Frankfurt right now so I've had plenty of time to read everything carefully).
Of course, I still get someone in my company to send this out almost every year and we always catch a few people:
Quote:
This week we will thoroughly clean all new telephone lines/extensions by injecting compressed air into the cables. To control dust and debris that may emanate from your receivers, please store your phones in a wastebasket or ask me for a special plastic bag designed for this purpose which I can send over to you.

frankly i don't see the point of an april fool's 'joke' highlighting a feature that many people regard highly in a competitor - show's what customers miss out on flying AA

Me, too. And I thought I had primed myself to not take anything seriously today.
