That would be interesting - so far, one rumor was posted on another thread and was said to be based on some Flight Attendants' rumors.

One challenge might be the -300ER GE90-115B1 engines; AA's 777-223ERs are equipped with the Rolls Royce 895 engines, so that's lots of extra expense for maintenance and parts inventories, among others.

Actually, I think AA can do easily way for flying ORD-BOM/DEL, MIA-JNB/CPT, DFW-HKG, ORD-HKG, JFK-BOM/DEL, MIA/ORD/JFK-TLV, MIA-GIG/GRU/EZE.

Anyone who's been on 772 routes that consistently fill up could suggest other potential routes. DFW-FRA, ORD-LHR, JFK-LHR (especially with the reduced AA capacity starting in April), possibly flights into NRT or PEK... It's all speculation, but I think we've all been on 772s elbow-to-elbow.

AA do already operate GE engines on other widebodies and have chosen them for their very-possibly-forthcoming 787-9s, so it wouldn't be entirely new ground. Indeed, across the AA fleet one would find engines from GE, Rolls, P&W and CFMI. It would seem they don't seem put off by "diversifying" their source of engines.

Most places a 747-400 can fly, a 777-300ER can fly, limited only by ETOPS 180, iirc. Max range is 7,930 nautical miles (14,690 km) with 20% less fuel burn, and competing with the A340-600HGW, according to this Expedia article and Boeing's 777 pages, 777-300ER page.

MIA to South Africa would be a welcome addition indeed. Much better way than going via LHR. ^

JFK-JNB is a hair shorter (AA used to codeshare with SA on their 744), but the return might still call for a refuel stop at SID, as those did.

I've heard the 773ER rumors have weight to them. We'll see. This report lately has fueled the fire, with some people speculating that AA is that upcoming order for 20 773s:

http://leehamnews.wordpress.com/2011...eam/#more-3929

If this is true, I think we will hear on January 19th.

But for now, let's not get our hopes up.

Last JAL-AA press conference was "Attention, Attention, we forgot what to say"
It will be nice to have 777-300ER on AA with the new Boeing Sky Interior.
Dream on mode....

What is the likelihood of a route like that from a regulations/route management perspective if AA actually wanted it?

Do they just 'get it'?
