Sounds like DL is coming after AA big time in the ex-hub/focus cities. It all depends on how much defense AA wants to play. I guess the major factor will be how much feeder traffic is coming out of those cities on whether or not AA matches.
Just signed up for the ex-STL flights version of this DL offer. This might be the straw that finally breaks my AA habit (since they abandoned my little local airport and have now all but abandoned STL). We'll see.

Too bad it's on Delta! This promotion sounds a bit complex, I'm wondering if it would simply make sense for AA to just announce a DEQM promotion if they wanted to get more people "Up in the Air." Delta appears to be pretty aggressive, but at the end of the day it is still flying Delta.
But wow - that's a lot of RDM that could be accumulated w/ this promo. Too bad their options for my monthly STL-BOS are so poor.
It does seem a little complicated for AA to match - and in some respects why would they start "defending" STL now? They've (AA) made their opinion of STL pretty clear.

What's so complex? Originate and terminate in one of these cities, and you get double EQM. That's pretty simple. You also get bonus RDM - 5,000 if flying to one of their listed hubs, 10,000 for all other domestic flights, 25,000 for international coach, 50,000 for international business. AA frequently has promos for bonus RDMs with different amounts for different classes flown. If it were two separate promos - one for double EQM and one for bonus RDM - we wouldn't think it was complex at all.

Also, respectfully, actually FLYING Delta is a pretty good experience. YMMV of course, but I actually find it better than AA. The problem with DL is SkyMiles. That's where AA just kicks DL's butt. In the air though, DL is a good product.
Make no mistake though, DL has made some decent strides @ STL. Just a few months ago, there were one cabin CRJs intermixed on just about all routes and it was PAINFUL to avoid them. Now they have them pretty much segregated to MEM/CVG only, and all other hubs get two cabin planes exclusively. SLC gets a fair bit of mainline now, and even JFK gets two cabin planes this summer onward. Plus LGA starts up this fall and ramps quickly up to 4x/daily, also all on two cabin planes.
If they'd get real ballsy and open a club, they might have a real shot at siphoning a decent amount of AA traffic.

My brother got this offer for his DL STL account.
Agreed! I'd LOVE to see STL-BOS on E175 or the like from DL. I don't think 1-2x E175 (or perhaps on 1x 73G/738/MD-88) is out of the question. BOS-IND does quite well for DL. Aparently the WN STL-BOS flights are working, but it's terribly unfortunate we have no premium capacity to speak of on this route from STL. DL has shown an interest in STL and hopefully a SkyClub is in the works. I think it's worth mentioning that IND, RDU, BNA (also received this offer) have SkyClubs and are all smaller markets than STL.

As much as I enjoy AA and AAdvantage, I must say DL does do a lot things better. They have newer aircraft (PM-DL), cleaner aicraft, true AVOD, free Live-TV (757, 738, 73G, domestic 763, and MD-90 by year end), more Wifi (All MD, Airbus, 757, 738, 73G are equipped), free snacks in Y, better buy-on-board, non-union crews (PM-DL for the time being), nicer terminal facilities (ie BOS Terminal A and DTW McNamara) better club amenities (free booze and light snacks). What's not to like?
And to make matters better, they actually fly to international destinations I need to go (ie AMS, ARN, CPH, HKG, TLV).
I agree their mileage program is weak, but I think their hard product, service, and network are far superior to AA. But at the end of the day, Im still loyal to AAdvantage and have kept my EXP status with AA.

- I will be easily re-qualifying for AA EXP this year without any DEQM based on the trips already completed or booked. However, the Delta offer would make me to consider switching a few future trips from AA to DL if the DL schedule is more convenient or DL price is lower.

RDU, PIT, BNA, STL are all presently big Southwest cities. The generous mileage bonus promised for international Business Elite travel is just to mess with their heads.

Are these Delta offers targeted or open to everyone?

My understanding is anyone can register, provided that they are traveling to/from one of the promotional cities. DL only emailed people with accounts in the relevant markets.

If AA matches, I guess FTs outside of focus cities will try to connect to London through RDU. Otherwise, crazy routings like ORD-STL-DFW-LHR, DFW-STL-ORD-LHR, LAX-STL-ORD-LHR, etc. will need be made to take advantage and travel to LHR.
I guess we will know by early next week whether AA matches. I have some co-workers in STL that are ready to shift all business to Delta if AA does not match.

No less than AA did a few months ago by adding LGA-ATL, LGA-MSP and putting 2-class CRJs on the JFK Shuttle routes. (It was nice to see AA playing offense for a change.)
