Bluetooth (mouse, headset, etc.) during a flight????
Yes, I did search FT and AA!
Does AA allow the use bluetooth equipment during a flight? The closest I came to this question was a past thread (Bluetooth on *A carriers, allowed or not?) which basically said, "yes, unless they say no then no." Has this changed or is there an actual AA policy on this.
I checked AA FAQs and found some basic language on cell phones, laptops, etc.
I am asking becayse I was thinking about buying a set of bluetooth earbuds but don't want to spend the money if the FAs don't allow it.
Not allowed. No wireless devices are allowed except for AA-provided wifi. This is clearly spelled out on aa.com and American Way.
Thank you. I read that too. I was hoping that bluetooth had been around long enough for AA to realize it wasn't the wireless monster it is made out to be or that perhaps only bluetooth was allowed.
I read the very long thread that someone wrote a couple of weeks ago about PAX on flight 10 (LAX-JFK) using their cell phones after they were told not so. No need to pick over that issue, the antenna specs, etc. again.
This question is cheerfully withdrawn. Moderator please put my thread out its misery!

Also wouldn't allow the Infra-red controller for my DVD player -- it's a blanket "Thou shall not use any wireless functioning device" so that the FAs are not drawn into a debate by every pax over whether or not their particular device has passed FCC or FAA testing.

I'm waiting for an FA to take that to the extreme and ban anything that emits electromagnetic radiation, including visible light. "Your computer's LCD is a wireless device!"
Many will say this belongs in OMNI and I'm duly apologetic ahead of time on that score, but I simply can't help asking the OP
Are you sure you want to attach a live microwave device to your head?
(Please don't answer. I know the arguments on both sides. And, hoping you get the corded style with the transmitter/receiver that can be placed away from your body, I'll return to minding my own business now.)
There's also the practical matter of whether FAs would even notice a set of wireless headphones. On some level to them headphones are headphones - A2DP probably won't even register on their suspicious device radar A standard BT headset would stand out like a sore thumb though.
Considering that both BT and wifi exist on the 2.4ghz range and are designed to not tread too badly on each other, you'll probably be fine all things considered.
Un-official AA policy: all wireless devices where we cannot charge money for their use are banned, but as soon as we find out a way to charge for them they're welcomed, preferably in huge quantities.
To each his own, but on this one over 10k altitude I'd clearly apply the "ask for forgiveness, not permission" rule. Under 10k it's best if you keep them off, even though the evidence there is rather murky.

OK, then you didn't look very closely. This is a direct crib from AA.com (emphasis is mine):
"Radio transmission using personal communications devices (example: walkie-talkies, two-way pagers, or wireless headphones)is prohibited"

Yeah, I read your's (and every other one) but that one line (pearl of wisdom I needed) got lost in the ever increasing chatter between antena arrays, wireless spectrum, digtial signals, microwave patterns below/above 10,000 ft, avionics, impact of cellura signals on human tissue, etc., etc., etc. While I enjoy a lively debate and appreciate the great minds (mine excluded) that brought so much to the discussion, it got rather bogged down in defending facts and commentary.
However, I do thank you for directing me to your commentary and appreciate the knowledge you imparted. I will do a better job with my searching in the future.

It's not that obvious. Just because emit Infra red light doesn't mean there isn't any RF noise caused by the device, though I think that over 10K, it should be permitted. You shouldn't have be forced to manually adjust your dvd player. How far away do yo keep it? With IR, it's line of sight.
