Which flight is best for International Business Class - 777 or 763? This is for a flight next October to LHR. We would fly ACT-DFW-LHR or ACT-DFW-BOS-LHR on award tickets. There would be the extra flight to Boston for the 763 -is it worth it? This is our first time to fly Business Class so are hoping for the best experience we can have.
IMHO, the differences between 777 and 763 business class are small, definitely not worth an extra flight in domestic first.
Advantages of the 763:
If I'm traveling alone, I like the middle section of the 763, since there is no middle passenger.
Meal service is moderately better. Separate salad, rather than served with main course.
Advantages of the 777:
I prefer the built in IFE. Removing the screens always seems like a hassle.
Seats are noticeably wider.
There is always a chance of an op-up to first.
Don't 763s have the new business class, 2-class plane configuration? If so, I find the experience to be monumentally better than the J product in a 772.
1) Lie flat seats that really allow you to sleep
2) Significantly improved IFE

All 777s also have the new business class seats, so I'm not sure I'd agree about the "monumentally" part . . .

Take the DFW-LHR nonstop.

Ditto for me...Couldn't have said it better myself. And, as for 777 J Class, they have NGBC seats as well. As an additional incentive, the more segments, the greater the likelihood for lost baggage or missed connections. Might make sense if you were on MR, but this is an award ticket.

+1
I'll also throw in that you're more likely to enjoy the meal service (and accompanying wines) on this longer flight and still get a few winks at night.
Comparing my experiences in TATL J, I'd prefer to backtrack a bit domestically (i.e., WAS-ORD/DFW/MIA-EU) and have a longer TATL flight than fly more directly (i.e., WAS-JFK/BOS-EU).

This summer I did both the DFW direct and a flight through BOS. No question about it, skip BOS. I agree with the other comments made here about the relative merits of the planes, and in any case, a longer flight is better because it allows for some real sleep time.
One advantage of the 763 is there are no middle "prisoner of Zenda" seats in Business; another is somewhat better service, as it is the highest class available on this aircraft.
The 777 seats are wider, and there is significantly more storage space at hand for shoes, etc.
The clincher for me: an extra segment and a shorter transat redeye are not useful IMO.
OTOH if it's about the miles, fly ORD-LAX-LHR or at least ORD-MIA-/ DFW-LHR.

Agree with all the other posters. Stick with the DFW-LHR route. We get plenty of strong October storms here in Boston, so that alone should deter you. You would be sad pandas if you got stuck in BOS because your inbound or outbound flight was delayed.
You are, of course, speaking of the 757-223 with "stress positioning" seating, not the 75L... And of course, you are right - for the vast majority of us, I suspect. (Ah, the good old SFO-BOS 763 days :sigh: )

BOS - DFW - HNL - <LIH/KOA> in J is way better than BOS - LAX - LIH in J. Flying for 13 hours on a 752 would be torturous, even in F.
SFO-LAX-BOS redeye on a 762 can be better than SFO-BOS on a 757. It was better when they were running LAX-BOS on a 763.
Maybe it's just me but I hate the 752s with a passion.

Not sure if you have elite-status (profile doesn't indicate), but you should note that if you do get stuck in BOS there's no longer a Flagship Lounge there, and the AC is still partly under renovation. If you really want the 763 2x2x2, rather than the otherwise comparable 777 2x3x2, setup, then consider flying via ORD (AA90). At least if you get stuck there you'll have a better AC and a Flagship Lounge if you qualify. Far quicker jump from Texas too. If you do get stuck at ORD, the hotels around the airport, in my experience, are better and cheaper than those around BOS.
